Bosch Supercharges eShift with Electronic Derailleurs, AI Navigation, and Eco+ Mode

Electric bike leader Bosch has unveiled a suite of exciting updates to its eBike system at Eurobike 2024. The centerpiece is a major upgrade to their eShift technology, finally making it compatible with electronic derailleurs.

Smoother Shifting and Reduced Wear with eShift Expansion

Previously, eShift only worked with internal gear hubs. Now, Bosch is partnering with TRP to introduce eShift to their all-new EASI A12 electronic drivetrain and Shimano’s Di2 derailleurs. This unlocks a whole new level of shifting performance for e-bikes.

eShift works by momentarily reducing motor power during gear changes, resulting in smoother, quieter operation. This not only enhances ride comfort but also reduces wear and tear on your drivetrain. Additionally, eShift offers automatic shifting options, similar to SRAM’s Eagle AXS, maintaining a comfortable cadence for effortless riding.

TRP Unveils EASI A12 Electronic Drivetrain

While details are scarce, TRP has unveiled their first foray into electronic drivetrains with the EASI A12. This 12-speed system draws power from the e-bike’s battery and boasts a completely wireless shifter for a clean look and clutter-free cockpit. Compatibility is limited to Bosch’s Performance Line CX and SX motors for now, but more information is expected to emerge at Eurobike.

AI Integration Makes Navigation Smarter

Bosch is also integrating AI into its eBike Flow app, making navigation and route planning more intelligent. The new “Range Control” feature considers rider weight, elevation profile, and riding style to predict battery life upon arrival, reducing range anxiety. This system learns over time, becoming increasingly accurate as it observes your riding behavior. Additionally, AI can automatically adjust motor support based on the route to maximize range and even estimate your arrival time.

Eco+ Mode Gets More Eco-Friendly

Bosch’s Eco+ mode receives an upgrade with a focus on even greater energy savings. The motor now completely disengages when coasting or descending hills, reserving battery life. While Eco+ will still offer gentle assistance when starting or overtaking, the focus is on a more natural riding experience, akin to a traditional bike.

These updates from Bosch represent a significant leap forward for e-bikes, offering smoother shifting, smarter navigation, and extended range. With the inclusion of electronic derailleurs and AI integration, Bosch is solidifying its position at the forefront of e-bike technology.
