Swiss Startup OTTER Launches Electric Water Bikes in Florida
Electric bikes have taken cities by storm. Now, one Swiss company wants to do the same on the water. Meet OTTER, a startup on a mission to bring pedal-powered fun β with a boost of electric assist β to lakes, rivers, and coastlines.
Their flagship product, the Otter Explorer, is a two-person electric water bike. Think of it as a mix between a paddle boat and an e-bike, only sleeker, faster, and much easier to ride. Itβs quiet, eco-friendly, and built for effortless aquatic exploration.
From Switzerland to Florida
OTTER first launched in its home country of Switzerland, where early models quickly sold out. Strong demand pushed the brand into new European markets earlier this year. Now, the company is ready for its biggest leap yet: the United States.
To make that happen, OTTER has teamed up with Nautical Ventures, a Florida-based boat dealership. Starting this month, Nautical Ventures will be the exclusive reseller of Otter Explorers in Florida. Customers will be able to see and test the bikes at major boat shows in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Palm Beach.

Why Florida?
The choice seems obvious. Florida offers year-round boating weather, endless waterways, and a population eager to try new water sports. As OTTERβs founder Gian Zimmerman puts it:
βPartnering with Nautical Ventures gives us an immediate foothold in the U.S. with a trusted and professional team. We share the same vision of making water recreation more sustainable and more accessible.β
Zimmerman also describes the Otter Explorer as a βpersonal mini-yacht thatβs easy to handle and emissions-free.β
Whatβs Next for OTTER?
The Explorerβs first production run is already close to sold out, and U.S. sales are expected to finish it off. But OTTER isnβt stopping there. The team is already working on the next generation of bikes, using feedback from early riders. New designs and models are also in the pipeline.
For now, Florida boaters get the first crack at this fresh way to enjoy the water. But if the Explorer takes off the way e-bikes did, donβt be surprised if you see these sleek water rides showing up across the U.S.
