NIU Launches Affordable KQi 100P and KQi 100F Electric Scooters

Electric scooter leader NIU has launched two new models just in time for the back-to-school season: the NIU KQi 100P and KQi 100F. These scooters are designed with portability and affordability in mind, offering compact options for budget-conscious commuters.

How affordable are these scooters?

The NIU KQi 100P comes in at an impressive MSRP of $349, while the slightly more compact KQi 100F is priced at $449. These price points are typically seen with lesser-known brands rather than established companies like NIU, known for its range of electric bicycles and highway-legal electric motorcycles.

Despite the different names and prices, both scooters share many similarities. Each is equipped with a front suspension fork, a 48V 252Wh battery, and a peak-rated 600W rear motor. They can reach speeds of up to 28 km/h (17.4 mph) and offer a maximum range of 29 km (18 miles) on a single charge. Both models are fitted with 9″x2.3″ pneumatic tires and can tackle inclines of up to 15%.

The primary distinction lies in the KQi 100F, which features folding handlebars and is available through popular retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, and Target. Meanwhile, the KQi 100P marks its debut at Kohl’s, in addition to its availability at Walmart.

Ben McGill, Head of North America for NIU, stated, “By launching these two electric kick scooters and partnering with major retailers like Best Buy, Kohl’s, and Walmart, we aim to enhance convenience for customers while setting a new benchmark in the e-mobility sector. The KQi 100 series outperforms many mid-tier scooters while remaining hundreds of dollars less expensive. We are one of the few companies offering a sub-$500 scooter with such capabilities. For a decade, NIU has been at the forefront of lithium-ion battery electric vehicles, ensuring affordability in urban mobility, and the KQi 100 Series exemplifies our commitment to innovative technology at competitive prices.”

While these scooters come with smaller batteries and slightly lower top speeds compared to many competitors in the North American market, they offer remarkable affordability, making them particularly appealing to younger riders, especially college students.

NIU hasn’t compromised on features despite the budget-friendly pricing. Both models utilize NIU’s smart app, which offers connected features and adjustable settings. Riders can modify parameters like maximum charge levels (to extend battery life) and regenerative braking strength through the app.

Weighing in at 17.5 kg (38.5 lbs), the scooters support a maximum rider weight of 120 kg (264 lbs) and feature sturdy aluminum frames with IP55 water resistance. They come equipped with LED lights for both front and rear visibility, including built-in turn signals.

Both scooters are now available, and we look forward to testing them soon to share our impressions of NIU’s latest electric rides.
