Blix Vika X: The Next-Gen Folding E-Bike with Auto Shifting

California-based e-bike manufacturer Blix has introduced an exciting new addition to its lineup: a folding commuter e-bike designed to carry over 300 lbs while offering automatic power and gear shifting for an optimized riding experience. This versatile e-bike can operate as either a Class 2 or Class 3 vehicle and is equipped with a robust 70-mile battery range.
While Blix previously released a folding e-bike, the Vika+ Flex, the newly launched Vika X shares a similar aesthetic. Both models feature an aluminum alloy folding frame, although their folded dimensions vary slightly. The Vika X collapses to 36 x 21 x 29 inches (914 x 533 x 736 mm), compared to the Flex’s 36 x 21 x 28.5 inches. Weighing in at 61 lbs (27.6 kg), the Vika X is not categorized as a cargo bike like the Dubbel; however, it comes equipped with a rear rack compatible with the MIK mounting system, allowing for a total load capacity of 312 lbs (141.5 kg), rider included.
At the heart of the Vika X is a 500-W geared motor positioned in the rear hub, delivering 55 Nm (40.5 lb-ft) of torque and featuring three levels of pedal assistance. Similar to the Vvolt Centauri II, this new model boasts an automatic mode that adjusts both motor power and the Microshift 8-speed gearset based on factors like cadence, bike speed, motor output, and hill gradient.
The Vika X replaces the cadence sensor found in the Flex with an advanced torque sensor, enhancing responsiveness for acceleration up to Class 2 speeds of 20 mph out of the box. This speed can be unlocked to reach a Class 3 top speed of 28 mph (45 km/h). Additionally, riders can utilize a twist throttle for quick bursts of speed, making it easier to get moving from a standstill or tackle uphill stretches.
Located behind the seat tube is a 614.4-Wh removable battery, similar to that of the Flex model. However, Blix has improved its efficiency to provide an impressive range of up to 70 miles (112.6 km) per charge, making it suitable for most daily commutes. A color display, which automatically adjusts to ambient light, allows for quick status checks, while a companion mobile app offers deeper insights into settings and ensures future-proofing through firmware updates.
Other notable features include 20-inch wheels fitted with 2.4-inch puncture-resistant tires, hydraulic disc brakes with 180-mm rotors, an electronic horn for safety, a low/high-beam headlight with a brightness of 120 lux, and a braking tail-light equipped with turn signals. The bike also includes plastic fenders for added convenience.

The folding e-bike has been certified to UL 2849 safety standards and is available for pre-order in four color options, priced at $1,699. Each order includes a complimentary carry bag to protect the folded e-bike when not in use. Additional bags and baskets are also available as options. Shipping is expected to commence in October.
