Additionally, the ordinance would ban more specific behaviors, including:

  • Performing wheelies or stunts in public streets
  • Swerving intentionally
  • Riding more than two abreast
  • Engaging in racing or acrobatics

MOVE S.B.’s Response: Is the Ordinance Too Harsh?

The local bicycle advocacy group MOVE S.B. has voiced strong concerns over these proposals, particularly the blanket ban on wheelies and group rides. While the group supports promoting safer cycling practices, they believe that these changes may place an undue burden on cyclists, especially younger riders and those who rely on bikes for their daily commute.

In a statement, MOVE S.B. criticized the potential administrative fines, which could range from $100 to $500, and expressed alarm over the impounding of bikes.
