British company Swytch Bike has built a solid reputation for its innovative conversion kits, which allow riders to easily transform regular bicycles into electric bikes. Now, with the release of the new Swytch Max+, the company is taking things to the next level—offering extended range and new features designed for even more convenience.
The Swytch Max+ is a significant upgrade over previous models, including the well-known original Swytch kit (now replaced by the Swytch Air). Like its predecessors, the Max+ kit includes three main components: a crankset-mounted pedal sensor, a hub-motor front wheel that replaces the bike’s existing wheel, and a handlebar-mounted power pack. The power pack connects to the motor via cables and houses both the battery and the electronic control system.
Once installed, these components work together to provide motor-assisted pedaling, propelling riders to a top speed of either 20 mph (32 km/h) or 16 mph (25 km/h), depending on local regulations. If you prefer to ride without electric assistance, the power pack can be removed from the handlebars in seconds, and since the hub motor doesn’t carry the battery or controls, it remains lighter than typical motorized wheels, enhancing the overall bike experience even in non-electric mode.
So, what sets the Max+ apart from the previous Swytch Air?
The standout feature is its impressive battery range. The Max+ offers up to six times the range compared to earlier models, making it a game-changer for longer rides. There are two versions available:
- Max+ Standard: Offers a range of 30 to 40 miles (48 to 64 km) per charge, with a 4-hour charging time.
- Max++ Extended: Provides an even greater range of 45 to 60 miles (72 to 97 km) and takes 5.5 hours to charge.
Both versions come with additional upgrades, including a USB-C port that allows riders to charge their phones on the go. The power pack also doubles as a safety feature, with the illuminated Swytch logo and a glowing ring around the perimeter serving as a headlight for increased visibility.

For riders who prefer a more traditional setup, Swytch offers a rear-wheel-drive option, where the motor is fitted to the rear wheel instead of the front. This rear wheel can be custom-sized based on the buyer’s bike specifications and is compatible with thru-axle setups.
The Max+ system adds just 3.6 kg (7.9 lb) to the bike, with 2.1 kg (4.6 lb) attributed to the power pack. The Max++ version is slightly heavier, adding 3.7 kg (8.2 lb) overall, with the power pack weighing 2.2 kg (4.9 lb).
Both versions of the Swytch Max+ are available for preorder now, with deliveries expected next summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Prices start at $499 for the Max+, discounted from the planned retail price of $1,199.
