Local Ordinances
Virginia Beach adds its own layer of rules:
- E-bikes are banned on sidewalks and the boardwalk in the Resort Area
- No e-bikes on Atlantic Avenue from May 1 – Sept 30
- Outside the Resort Area, e-bikes are allowed on sidewalks or paths unless signage says otherwise
- Riders under 14 and all Class 3 riders must wear helmets
- Fines for reckless or unsafe riding range from $50 to $200
Most enforcement starts with education—but repeat offenders can face tickets.
