Tasmania Offers Grants for Small Businesses to Switch to Electric Delivery Vans and Cargo E-Bikes
Small businesses in Tasmania, Australia now have the opportunity to receive financial assistance to transition to cleaner, greener delivery options through a new government initiative aimed at reducing emissions in the delivery sector. The Deliver-E program provides grants for the purchase of cargo e-bikes and electric delivery vans to help businesses lower their environmental impact in the last-mile and short-to-medium delivery sectors.
What is the Deliver-E Program?
Launched by Environment Minister Madeleine Ogilvie, the Deliver-E program is designed to support small businesses in replacing their internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles with electric alternatives. This shift is part of Tasmania’s broader environmental efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable transport solutions.
Businesses can apply for grants of up to $2,500 to purchase cargo e-bikes and up to $20,000 for electric delivery vans. The government’s initiative highlights the dual benefits of electric vehicles: reducing emissions and decreasing noise pollution, particularly in urban areas.
“Everyone stands to benefit through more electric vehicles in our streets,” said Minister Ogilvie. “More EVs mean less emissions and less noise pollution. Cargo e-bikes also promote active transport, which carries several health and wellbeing benefits.”
Strengthening Tasmania’s Clean Image
The Deliver-E program is not only an environmental initiative but also a step toward enhancing Tasmania’s image as a clean, green destination for business. By encouraging small businesses to adopt electric vehicles, Tasmania aims to align its economic growth with sustainability, all while making urban areas cleaner, quieter, and less congested.
“Environmentally conscious businesses strengthen Tasmania’s brand as a clean and green place to do business, in line with our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future,” Ogilvie added.
Small Businesses Embrace the Change
The initiative has been met with enthusiasm from both business owners and trade representatives. One notable supporter is Ahmet Bektas, owner of Teros, a green lifestyle shop in Hobart that specializes in e-bikes. Bektas believes that the Deliver-E program will encourage more small businesses to adopt eco-friendly delivery methods, ultimately contributing to a healthier, more sustainable urban environment.
“Deliver-E will encourage more small businesses to make the switch to clean and green deliveries, making our urban areas cleaner, quieter, and less congested,” Bektas said.
A Step Toward a Greener Future
With the Deliver-E program, Tasmania is taking significant strides toward reducing its carbon footprint while helping small businesses embrace the future of sustainable transport. This initiative not only benefits the environment but also creates a healthier, more vibrant community—one delivery at a time.
