Segway Unveils 100-Mile Smart E-Bikes and New U.S. Division for 2025 Launch

Segway is setting its sights on the U.S. market with an exciting launch of two cutting-edge long-range e-bikes, the Xafari and Xyber. These innovative models, first revealed earlier this year, are gearing up for an official release in Q1 2025, and they’re sure to make waves with their bold designs and impressive range.

High-Tech and Long Range E-Bikes

The Xafari and Xyber are not your average e-bikes. The Xafari, with its more commuter-friendly design, promises an impressive 88 miles (141 km) of range. Meanwhile, the Xyber, which takes on a more moto-inspired look, is capable of reaching up to 100 miles (160 km) per charge with its dual battery setup. Both bikes fall under the U.S. three-class e-bike regulations, thanks to their fully functional pedals, despite their strikingly different aesthetics.

What sets these bikes apart is their integration of Segway’s Intelligent Ride System, which promises a level of tech sophistication more commonly seen in cars than in e-bikes. While Segway has yet to fully reveal all the features, the company describes the system as “industry-leading technology” aimed at creating a seamless, connected user experience.

The bikes are also equipped with full suspension, hydraulic disc brakes, integrated lighting, fenders, and large batteries, further emphasizing their ability to tackle long-distance rides. The Xafari is designed with a traditional cycling look, complete with a rear rack, while the Xyber looks like a mini-moto, blurring the line between bicycle and motorbike.

New U.S. E-Bike Division and Leadership

To prepare for the anticipated launch, Segway is building a dedicated e-bike division in the U.S. The new team is being led by Nick Howe, a veteran of the cycling industry with 25 years of experience, including roles at Orbea and Trek. Under his leadership, Segway has brought in other industry heavyweights such as Heather Henderson, Senior Brand Manager, and Sophie Eaton, Sales Operations Director, to help drive the brand’s e-bike success.

This new team reflects Segway’s serious commitment to the e-bike market, and the company is confident that the Xafari and Xyber will lead the charge, with more models on the horizon. Howe stated, “These are two incredible yet very different bikes and this is only the beginning. We can’t wait to show you what else we have in store for 2025 and beyond.”

Expanding Sales and Service Networks

In addition to its new U.S. team, Segway is working to expand its dealer network, focusing on independent bike shops, e-bike specialists, and motorcycle or outdoor retailers. The company is also offering online sales, allowing customers to order the bikes online and have them shipped to a local dealer for assembly and service. This dual approach ensures customers can access both the latest tech and a smooth service experience, critical for maintaining the sophisticated features of these bikes.

Pricing and Market Position

While exact details on pricing are still emerging, Segway has hinted that the Xafari and Xyber will be priced around the $3,000 mark. With the level of technology and range these bikes offer, they are positioned between the budget-friendly and premium end of the e-bike market. These models won’t compete with the lowest-priced e-bikes, but they’ll be more affordable than many high-end options from brands like Specialized, Trek, and Giant, giving Segway a unique niche in the growing e-bike market.

What’s Next?

The upcoming Xafari and Xyber e-bikes are a bold move for Segway, combining futuristic design with top-tier technology and impressive range. While there are still many details to be revealed ahead of the pre-order launch on January 7, 2025, these bikes are definitely worth keeping an eye on.
