Last Updated on October 19, 2026 by Kristina

🚴♀️ Hands-On Review – Based on personal riding and direct testing.
Specifications checked: October 15, 2026
Introduction
The Mooncool TK2 electric trike made a great first impression on me, starting with how well it was packaged for shipping. After getting it set up and taking it for a ride, I found it smooth and enjoyable, although there were a few things I had to get used to.
I’ve ridden regular bicycles, and I quickly learned that riding a three-wheel electric trike is a different experience.
One thing I absolutely love about the TK2 is its reverse function. I also appreciate its folding design and all the thoughtful accessories Mooncool included with my trike.
However, I do have some concerns about seat comfort for larger riders, despite the trike’s advertised weight capacity.
In this hands-on Mooncool TK2 review, I’ll share what I genuinely liked, what felt different, and what I think potential buyers should consider before ordering.

Quick Verdict
Overall Rating: 8.0 out of 10 – Very Good
Best for: Recreational riders and everyday errand runners who want a folding electric trike with a smooth ride, convenient reverse function, front and rear cargo storage, and practical included accessories.
Strongest advantage: The combination of smooth riding, an easy-to-use reverse function, folding design, and thoughtful accessories, including storage bags, mirrors, and a phone holder.
Biggest drawback: The TK2 takes some getting used to if you’re accustomed to riding a regular bicycle. The seat may also feel too narrow for larger riders, despite Mooncool’s advertised 450 lb total load capacity.

Unboxing the Mooncool TK2: Excellent Packaging and Helpful Instructions

One of the first things that impressed me was how well Mooncool packaged the TK2.
The trike arrived very well protected, and I could tell care had gone into the shipping materials.
When you’re ordering something as large as an electric trike, good packaging matters. Nobody wants to open a box and find damaged components or parts that weren’t adequately protected.
Mooncool did a great job here.
I was also pleased with the instructions. They were helpful and made the setup process easier to understand.
Another convenience was that the front and rear cargo carrying areas were already installed on my trike.
Overall, my unboxing experience was very positive. Good packaging and instructions might not be the most exciting features to talk about, but they certainly make a difference when your new trike arrives.

Riding the Mooncool TK2: Smooth, but Different From a Regular Bike
Let’s talk about the riding experience because this is where I noticed the biggest adjustment.
First, the good part. The Mooncool TK2 rides very smoothly. I really enjoyed that about it.
However, riding an electric trike is not quite the same as riding a traditional two-wheel bicycle.
If you’ve spent years riding regular bikes, you’re accustomed to balancing and leaning a certain way. With a trike, the handling is different because the rear wheels remain on the ground instead of leaning with you through turns.
It takes a little practice.
Getting Used to the Different Riding Position
Something I noticed during my rides was an occasional feeling of sitting slightly off-center.
At times, it almost seemed as though my body was leaning toward one side rather than sitting completely level.
It’s a difficult sensation to describe, but it definitely felt different from what I’m used to on a regular bike.
I’m not sure whether it had to do with my seating position, the surface I was riding on, or simply adjusting to how a three-wheel trike handles.
I don’t want to suggest there’s something wrong with the TK2 based on that feeling alone.
It’s just something I noticed and thought was important to share because other riders making the transition from two wheels to three might experience something similar.
If you’re new to electric trikes, my advice is to start slowly in an open, level area and give yourself time to become comfortable with the controls and steering. I’ve also put together a beginner’s guide to riding an electric trike that walks through starting, turning, braking, and getting used to the different handling.
Practice gentle turns and braking before riding in busier areas. A trike can still tip during sharp turns, particularly on uneven ground or when carrying an unbalanced load.
If you experience a persistent pull to one side or suspect something is out of alignment, check the seat position, tires, and setup rather than assuming it’s normal trike behavior.
One Feature I Absolutely Love: The Reverse Function
One of my favorite features on the Mooncool TK2 is the reverse function.
I really like having this feature because it makes maneuvering such a large trike much more convenient.
Unlike a regular bicycle, an electric trike is wider and heavier, which can make moving it around by hand a little awkward.
The ability to back up using the trike’s reverse function is a big plus.
Think about situations where you’re parked in a tight area, need to reposition the trike, or don’t have enough room to turn around easily.
Instead of having to physically push or pull it backward, you have a built-in feature to help.
Mooncool says the reverse function operates at less than 2.5 mph, which is appropriate for careful, low-speed maneuvering.
To me, this is one of those conveniences that might not seem like a big deal until you actually have it.
I really appreciate it, and it adds to my enjoyment of the TK2.
Of course, you should always look behind you, check for obstacles, and use reverse carefully.
Another Nice Feature: The Folding Frame
Something else I like about the Mooncool TK2 is its folding frame.
Electric trikes are naturally wider than regular bicycles, and storing one can be a challenge if you don’t have a lot of space.
The fact that the TK2 folds is a welcome feature.
Mooncool lists its folded dimensions at approximately 39.4 x 28.7 x 26.8 in.
That’s useful information for anyone considering keeping the trike in a garage, shed, or another storage area.
However, there’s something important to keep in mind. Although the TK2 folds, that doesn’t mean it’s lightweight.
Mooncool lists the trike’s weight at approximately 90.4 lb, which is fairly substantial.
Folding it may reduce the amount of space needed for storage, but lifting it into a vehicle or carrying it up steps could still be difficult.
I like the convenience of having a folding option, particularly when it’s combined with the reverse function.
Just measure your available storage space before assuming it will fit.
What I Loved About the Included Accessories
This is another area where Mooncool really impressed me.
I loved the thoughtful accessories included with my TK2.
Sometimes you buy an electric bike or trike and end up spending extra money on accessories you wish had been included in the first place.
My Mooncool package came with several really nice extras.
Front and Rear Insulated Cooler Bags
Another thing that impressed me about the Mooncool TK2 was the accessories Mooncool included. I’ve reviewed bikes that come with little more than the essentials, so I really appreciated the extra thought that went into this trike, especially the two insulated cooler bags included for the front and rear baskets.
Both bags are designed to help keep food and drinks cool, and I can see myself getting quite a bit of use out of them.
Front Insulated Cooler Bag
The front cooler bag fits right inside the basket above the front wheel. It has a black exterior with lighter-colored panels, a zippered lid, and straps that help secure it in place.
What I like about the front bag is how convenient its location is. It’s right there in front of you, making it a handy place to store smaller items like a couple of drinks, snacks, or lunch for a day at the park.
I also like that the bag fits neatly inside the basket rather than looking like something that was added as an afterthought. It gives the front of the trike a nice, finished appearance while serving a practical purpose.
Rear Insulated Cooler Bag
The rear cooler bag is larger and sits inside the cargo basket between the two back wheels. It has a black exterior, Mooncool’s yellow logo on the lid, and a spacious insulated compartment.
I particularly like how the top opens, giving you access to the inside without having to take the bag out of the basket. You can see this in my photos where I opened it to show the interior.
I can definitely see myself using this bag for a trip to the grocery store or packing drinks and food for a picnic. Having that extra storage space behind the seat is convenient, especially since you don’t have to worry about carrying everything on your back.

Why I Appreciate Having Both
What I like most is that Mooncool didn’t just include one bag. You get insulated storage in both the front and rear baskets, so you can separate your belongings however you like.
For example, I could keep a drink and snacks in the front while using the larger rear bag for groceries or picnic supplies. It’s a small convenience, but one I think would make a difference when using the trike regularly.
I haven’t tested how long either bag keeps things cold, so I can’t say how well the insulation performs over several hours. I would definitely use ice packs for anything perishable, particularly during hot summer weather.
Overall, these two cooler bags were one of my favorite surprises when I received the TK2. They’re practical, they fit the trike nicely, and I appreciate that Mooncool included them rather than making me purchase them separately.
And the thoughtful extras didn’t stop with the storage bags. Mooncool also included rearview mirrors and a phone holder, which are two more accessories I was happy to have on the trike.
Mirrors
Mooncool also included mirrors.
I think mirrors are very useful on an electric trike because they help you keep an eye on what’s happening behind you.
You should still look around before changing direction, but I like having that added visibility.
Phone Holder
Another welcome accessory was the phone holder.
This is handy if you use your phone for navigation while riding.
Having a designated place to securely mount it is much better than trying to carry it loosely. Just remember to set your destination before starting and avoid looking at or operating your phone while the trike is moving.
Front and Rear Cargo Baskets
One of the things I appreciate about the Mooncool TK2 is that it comes with both front and rear cargo baskets. Even better, both were already installed when my trike arrived.
Mooncool uses welded steel baskets, which should be useful for carrying groceries, personal belongings, and other everyday items.
According to Mooncool’s official measurements:
| Cargo basket | Dimensions (L × W × H) |
|---|---|
| Front basket | 12.6 × 11.8 × 5.7 inches |
| Rear basket | 18.9 × 14.2 × 6.3 inches |
The front basket is a convenient place for smaller items you want within easy reach. The larger rear basket offers more room for things like grocery bags, a jacket, or supplies for a recreational outing.
I also really liked that Mooncool included a front storage bag and an insulated cooler-style bag with my trike. These are thoughtful extras that make the cargo areas even more practical.
What about cargo weight limits?
Mooncool advertises a maximum total load capacity of 450 lb for the TK2. However, I couldn’t verify separate weight limits for the front and rear baskets.
That’s an important distinction because the trike’s total load capacity doesn’t mean you can put 450 lb into its baskets.
Before carrying particularly heavy items, I recommend contacting Mooncool to confirm the weight limit for each basket.
It’s also important to distribute cargo evenly and secure anything that could move around while riding. Heavy or uneven loads can affect steering, braking, and stability, especially when turning.
I think the TK2’s cargo setup is one of its most practical features. Having two baskets already installed, along with the included storage bags, makes it appealing for shopping trips and everyday errands without immediately needing to buy additional accessories.
Accessory note: These are the items included with my particular trike. Mooncool’s bundles and promotions may change, so check what’s included in the package you’re ordering.
Seat Comfort: My Biggest Concern for Larger Riders
This is one of the most important things I want to mention about the Mooncool TK2.
Mooncool advertises a maximum total load capacity of 450 lb. The company does not clearly separate that number into rider and cargo allowances on the pages I reviewed.
That’s an impressive number on paper, but I think there’s something buyers should consider beyond the weight rating.
How comfortably will a larger person actually fit on the seat?
When I sat on the TK2, I found myself wondering whether the seat would be roomy enough for someone with a larger build.
I don’t know if it’s just my personal impression, but the seating area didn’t strike me as especially generous. And that made me think.
There’s a difference between how much weight an electric trike is designed to support and how comfortable someone will actually feel sitting on it. A high weight capacity doesn’t necessarily mean the seat will accommodate every body type.
Mooncool describes the TK2 seat as a vacuum-foam saddle with a backrest and lists its dimensions as 12.3 x 12.5 inches on both its product page and geometry and fit page.
Measurements alone, though, don’t tell you how a seat will fit your body. If seat width or back support is important to you, I’d recommend confirming the dimensions and return conditions with Mooncool before ordering.
I haven’t tested the TK2 with riders of different body sizes, so I’m not saying it won’t be comfortable for larger people. I’m simply raising a concern based on what I noticed while sitting on the trike.
I also recommend asking Mooncool to confirm the maximum permitted rider weight and how much of the advertised 450 lb total load rating can be allocated to cargo.
For someone looking specifically for an electric trike with a higher weight capacity, seat width and actual fit are just as important as the published load rating.
If that’s a priority, my electric trikes for heavier riders guide explains what to look for.
Motor Performance, Battery, and Range
The Mooncool TK2 comes with a 500W motor, and Mooncool lists peak output at 1,092W with 65Nm of torque.
The standard battery is rated at 48V 15Ah, which works out to 720Wh of capacity.
Mooncool advertises a riding range of approximately 35-75 miles, depending on conditions. That is a manufacturer claim, not a range result from my rides.
I found the ride smooth during my time on the TK2, but I haven’t completed a controlled range test to see how far it will travel on a full charge.
Actual range can vary based on rider weight, cargo, hills, speed, tire pressure, and how much electric assistance you use.
Mooncool lists a standard 2A charger, with an optional 5A fast charger. The faster charger should not be assumed to come in the standard package.
I also haven’t performed measured hill-climbing or acceleration tests.
For that reason, I would treat the published performance numbers as manufacturer claims rather than guaranteed real-world results.
Display and Technology

The Mooncool TK2 comes with a centrally mounted 3.5-inch full-color TFT display that provides riding information and access to the trike’s pedal-assist settings.
According to Mooncool, the display shows your speed, battery level, estimated remaining range, selected pedal-assist mode, and distance traveled.
Mooncool also advertises an anti-reflective screen with brightness reaching up to 1,500 nits, designed to improve visibility in sunlight.
The display has also been easy to read during our rides, including in sunlight. I could see the information clearly without having to shade the screen with my hand, which is something I appreciate when checking it at a glance.
Five Pedal-Assist Modes
The TK2 offers five pedal-assist modes with individual names rather than simply displaying levels one through five.
- ECO: Lower assistance designed to conserve battery power.
- TOUR: Moderate assistance for relaxed riding.
- SPORT: Increased assistance for situations where you want more motor support.
- SPORT+: A higher level of motor assistance.
- TURBO: Maximum available pedal assistance.
The TK2 uses a cadence sensor, meaning the motor responds to pedal movement rather than measuring how much force you’re applying to the pedals.
It also has a half-twist throttle, allowing you to use motor assistance without pedaling, within the trike’s operating limits.
Electronic Controls and Additional Features
Mooncool equips the TK2 with several other electronic features:
- Reverse function: Helps you maneuver backward at low speeds. This has been one of my favorite features during my time riding the TK2.
- Turn signals: Provide a way to indicate your intended direction to other road users.
- Brake lights: The rear lighting brightens when the brakes are applied.
- Motor cutoff: The brake levers include an electrical cutoff function that interrupts motor assistance during braking.
- Electric horn: Provides an audible warning when needed.
Mooncool also lists a 20A field-oriented control (FOC) motor controller, which regulates power delivery to the motor.
Overall, the TK2 offers a useful combination of display information, multiple assistance settings, and electronic controls. I particularly appreciate the reverse function, although I still want to spend more time evaluating the display and assist settings under different riding conditions.
Brakes, Handling, and Safety Features

Mooncool equips the TK2 with hydraulic disc brakes and manufacturer-listed 180 mm rotors, a parking brake, a rear differential, front and rear lights, turn signals, and a horn. It also lists 40 mm of front suspension travel.
The rear differential is designed to allow the rear wheels to rotate at different speeds when turning, which is useful on a three-wheel vehicle.
I also like that Mooncool includes a parking brake. With an electric trike, it’s important to prevent unintended movement when parked.
Mooncool says the TK2 has been certified by SGS to the UL 2849 electrical-system and UL 2271 battery standards. Those are Mooncool’s published claims; I have not independently confirmed the underlying certification records in a testing-laboratory database. Certification does not eliminate the need for proper charging and battery care.
For new riders, I’d recommend familiarizing yourself with all the controls before heading out.
Start at a low assistance level, practice stopping and turning, and pay attention to how the trike handles on uneven ground.
Warranty, Returns, and Overall Value
Mooncool currently advertises a lifetime frame warranty, a 2-year battery warranty, and 1-year coverage for specified components.
The warranty has exclusions and conditions, so I recommend reading the complete policy before ordering.
Mooncool’s detailed return and refund policy says customers must contact support within 30 days of receiving the item and obtain return authorization. Eligible personal-preference returns require the customer to pay return shipping, and the product must meet the stated condition and packaging requirements. Mooncool says it pays return shipping for qualifying quality or fulfillment problems. Read the policy before ordering, especially if you are unsure about fit.
When I checked on October 15, 2026, Mooncool displayed a price of $1,499.99 for the standard TK2. Color availability and promotions can change.
Reader discount: Mooncool has provided coupon code EXPLORER for Electric Bike Explorer readers to use for an additional discount at checkout. Enter the code when purchasing through Mooncool’s TK2 product page. Check that the discount is applied before completing your order, as eligibility, exclusions, and promotions may change.
For me, the extra accessories add value to the package I received.
The reverse function, folding design, and ready-to-use cargo areas also make the trike more appealing.
Still, I think seat comfort and how confidently you can handle the trike are more important than accessories when making a final buying decision.

Should You Buy the Mooncool TK2?
Based on my experience so far, I think the Mooncool TK2 is a very nice electric trike with several features that make it worth considering.
The packaging was excellent, the instructions were helpful, and I really enjoyed its smooth ride.
I also loved the extras Mooncool included with mine. The storage bags, mirrors, and phone holder were thoughtful additions, and I appreciate having the front and rear cargo areas ready to use.
The reverse function is definitely one of my favorite features. I love how it makes maneuvering the trike more convenient.
And while the TK2 is still a heavy vehicle, I think its folding design is another nice feature for people who have limited storage space.
There are a couple of things I would encourage buyers to think about.
First, riding a three-wheel trike takes some getting used to if you’re accustomed to a regular bicycle. I occasionally noticed an unusual, slightly uneven seating sensation while riding, and the handling requires a different approach.
Second, although Mooncool advertises a 450 lb total load capacity, I think larger riders should pay close attention to the size and fit of the seat before purchasing.
You Should Buy This Trike If
You want a practical electric tricycle for recreational riding, neighborhood trips, or running errands, and you appreciate features like reverse, folding storage, and built-in cargo space.
It’s also worth considering if you’re willing to spend some time learning the different handling characteristics of a three-wheel vehicle.
You Should Skip This Trike If
You need a particularly wide seat and can’t confirm that the TK2 will fit comfortably.
You may also want to look elsewhere if you need something lightweight enough to lift regularly or if you expect it to steer and corner exactly like a traditional bicycle.
Alternative 1: Lectric XP Trike2
If you’re comparing folding electric trikes, the Lectric XP Trike2 is worth looking at.
It also folds and features a low step-over design.
Lectric lists a 415 lb total payload capacity with a separate maximum rider weight of 330 lb, which makes its rider-weight guidance easier to understand.
It’s an alternative worth considering if a low step-over height and defined rider and cargo limits are priorities.
Read my full review on the Lectric XP Trike2
Alternative 2: Velotric Triker
Another option is the Velotric Triker.
Velotric lists a 750W motor, 90Nm of torque, and a maximum total load capacity of 500 lb, including cargo.
It also has a beginner riding mode and adjustable assistance settings.
It’s a more expensive option, but it may appeal to riders who want different motor and control features.
However, its higher published load capacity doesn’t automatically mean the seat will be more comfortable. That’s something I’d still recommend checking carefully.

My Overall Recommendation
Preliminary Electric Bike Explorer Score: 8.0/10 – Very Good
This is an early hands-on rating. I have not completed controlled range, long-term reliability, or measured hill and braking tests, so I am not assigning numerical category scores yet.
I’m enjoying the Mooncool TK2, and I think it has a lot to offer.
The smooth ride, thoughtful accessories, folding design, and especially the convenient reverse function are all things I appreciate.
My biggest advice is to make sure the trike fits you comfortably and give yourself time to adjust to how three wheels handle.
I think the TK2 deserves consideration, particularly for riders who want a practical electric trike for relaxed outings and everyday use.
Before ordering, double-check seat fit, the split between rider and cargo weight allowances, the exact accessory bundle, current price, return policy, and the riding regulations in your area.
