California Tightens E‑Bike Safety Laws with New Lighting Rule

What’s the New Rule?
As of August 2025, Bill AB 544 is now law. It says this:
All e‑bikes must have a red reflector or a flashing red light on the back when ridden in low-light conditions.
That means dusk, night, dawn, fog—or any time it’s hard to see.
Why This Matters
E‑bike crashes at night are rising. Drivers often don’t see riders in time. This new rule is a simple fix that could save lives.

What Riders Need to Do

This Applies to All E‑Bikes
