Mooncool POP Folding E-Bike Review: Smooth, Comfortable, and Easy to Fold

Introduction

When I first started looking at the Mooncool POP, I was curious.

On paper, this folding e-bike checks a lot of boxes.

You get a 750W rear hub motor, full suspension, hydraulic disc brakes, a torque sensor, 20×3-inch tires, a removable battery, an integrated rear rack, turn signals, and a color display.

That is a pretty impressive list for a folding e-bike priced around $1,200.

But specifications only tell you so much.

Now that I actually have the Mooncool POP and have spent time riding it, folding it, moving it around, and getting familiar with the controls, I can say it impressed me more than I expected.

The ride is smooth, the bike looks very stylish in person, the full suspension makes a noticeable difference, and the folding mechanism is one of the easiest I have used.

We own another folding e-bike, and compared with the Mooncool POP, that bike is considerably more difficult to fold. The POP is much more straightforward.

I was also surprised by how manageable it feels when I need to lift or reposition it. At a claimed 67 lb, I am not going to call it a lightweight e-bike, but the way the bike is designed makes it less awkward to maneuver than I expected.

There are a few things I would change.

The stock thumb throttle on my bike was a little touchy for me at first, the battery could be larger, and Mooncool still has a few specifications and policies on its website that could be clearer.

But overall, this has been a very enjoyable folding e-bike to ride.

I personally have the Mooncool POP and have spent time riding, folding, moving, and getting familiar with it. I also checked Mooncool’s current specifications, warranty information, return policy, and available rider feedback so I could separate my own experiences from manufacturer claims.

Who the Mooncool POP Is Good For – and Who Should Skip It

I think the Mooncool POP makes the most sense for someone who wants the storage advantages of a folding e-bike without sacrificing comfort or everyday usability.

I think the POP is a good fit if:

• You want a folding bike for an RV, camper, SUV, office, garage, or smaller living space
• You value comfort and suspension
• You prefer a torque sensor over a basic cadence-only system
• You want hydraulic disc brakes
• You prefer a lower step-through frame
• You want a rear rack and fenders already included
• You ride neighborhood streets, bike paths where permitted, campgrounds, or recreational routes
• You want a 750W motor without moving into a much larger moped-style bike
• You like having turn signals and brake-light functionality built in
• You want a folding bike that is actually easy to fold

I would probably skip it if:

• You need an e-bike that is genuinely lightweight
• You regularly carry your bike upstairs
• You want the smallest possible folded bike
• You want a model with several years of long-term owner history
• You need the largest possible battery
• You strongly prefer a twist throttle and do not want to adjust to a thumb throttle
• Having a nearby local dealer is essential and you cannot find Mooncool service in your area

As of September 6, 2026, Mooncool lists the POP at $1,199.99, reduced from a stated regular price of $1,699.99.

Unboxing and First Impressions

My experience with the Mooncool POP started off on a very positive note before I even rode it.

The bike came very well packed.

The shipping box arrived in very good condition, and everything inside was protected well. Considering how large and heavy an e-bike box is, I always pay attention to how it arrives because poor packaging can turn an otherwise exciting delivery into a frustrating experience very quickly.

I had no complaints here.

Another thing I appreciated was the instruction manual.

The instructions were detailed and included excellent pictures.

That may sound like a small thing, but after assembling and dealing with several e-bikes over the years, I don’t take good instructions for granted.

I have received bikes where the manual was vague, the pictures weren’t helpful, or important steps were barely explained.

The Mooncool instructions were much easier to follow.

Once the POP was out of the box, the first thing that really stood out to me was the styling.

This is a very nice-looking bike.

The integrated battery, rear rack, frame design, tires, and overall proportions come together well. It doesn’t have the awkward look that some folding e-bikes can have.

And once I got on it, I was equally impressed by how substantial it felt.

I have ridden folding e-bikes that immediately feel small.

This one doesn’t.

The 20×3-inch tires, full suspension, wider saddle, rear rack, and substantial frame give the POP more of a full-size e-bike feel once I’m sitting on it.

That was one of the things I liked right away.

My Favorite Feature: The Ride Comfort

If I had to choose one thing that impressed me most about the Mooncool POP, it would probably be how smoothly it rides.

The combination of:

• 60mm front suspension
• Rear coil-spring suspension
• 20×3-inch tires
• A wide saddle
• An adjustable cockpit

creates a much more forgiving ride than I normally expect from a folding bike.

The bike simply rides smoothly.

I especially notice the difference on rough pavement, cracks, uneven sections of road, and the normal bumps you encounter riding around neighborhoods and campgrounds.

The POP does a good job of taking the edge off those surfaces.

The tires are another part of that equation.

I like the 3-inch width here.

They provide more stability and cushioning than narrow commuter tires, but they don’t feel quite as bulky as the 4-inch fat tires found on many folding e-bikes.

For the type of riding I do with a bike like this, I think Mooncool found a nice middle ground.

Motor Power and Performance

The Mooncool POP uses a 48V 750W rear hub motor, and Mooncool claims up to 1,200W of peak output and 85 Nm of torque.

Those peak-power and torque figures are manufacturer claims, but from my own riding experience, I can say the motor feels well matched to the bike.

The POP has enough power that it doesn’t feel sluggish pulling away from a stop, and I never felt like I was riding an underpowered little folding bike.

What I appreciate more than the raw wattage is how the power comes in through pedal assist.

The torque sensor makes pedal assist feel connected to what I’m doing with the pedals.

Instead of simply waiting for the cranks to turn and then giving me a big burst of assistance, the bike responds more naturally to the effort I’m putting in.

That makes the POP feel easier to control at lower speeds and more like I’m actually riding a bicycle rather than just triggering a motor.

The Thumb Throttle Took Some Getting Used To

The stock thumb throttle on the POP I received is one area where I needed a little adjustment time.

I found it fairly touchy.

It didn’t take much movement for me to feel the motor respond, and until I became familiar with it I had to be more deliberate about how I used my thumb.

I don’t necessarily consider that a defect.

Different riders like different throttle styles, and someone who is already accustomed to thumb throttles may not think twice about it.

But if you are new to an e-bike or haven’t used this type of throttle before, I think it is worth taking a little time in an open, safe area to become familiar with how the bike responds before riding around traffic or pedestrians.

Personally, I prefer a half-twist throttle.

My husband installed a half-twist throttle on the right side of the handlebar that we had from my old Vivi e-bike.

For me, that throttle style feels more natural and comfortable to control.

I do want to be clear that this is a personal modification to my bike. The POP I received came with a thumb throttle, and I am not recommending that readers install an unrelated throttle without first confirming electrical compatibility and considering any warranty or safety implications.

Interestingly, Mooncool’s own current pages are inconsistent here. Its POP Components page lists a thumb throttle, which matches my bike, while another POP specification section currently lists a twist throttle with removable trigger control.

If throttle style matters to you, I would confirm what is currently shipping before ordering.

Hill Climbing Performance

One area I always pay attention to on a folding e-bike is hill performance.

These bikes tend to be heavier than they look, and a folding frame doesn’t automatically mean an easy ride uphill.

With the POP, I think the 750W motor and torque-sensor setup work well together.

On moderate inclines, the bike has enough assistance that I don’t feel like I’m fighting the weight.

I also prefer using pedal assist on hills instead of relying only on the throttle because the torque sensor lets me add my own effort while the motor fills in the rest.

I wouldn’t buy the POP specifically as an extreme hill-climbing machine.

But for normal neighborhood hills, campground roads, overpasses, and the type of rolling terrain most riders encounter, I think the motor is well matched to the bike.

Battery, Charging, and Range

The Mooncool POP uses a removable 48V 13.6Ah battery.

That works out to approximately 653Wh.

Mooncool currently claims:

• Up to 30 miles using throttle only
• Up to 60 miles in PAS 1

I always take maximum e-bike range numbers with some caution.

Those are manufacturer claims, not the distance I am promising every rider will get.

Range can change dramatically depending on rider weight, terrain, wind, temperature, tire pressure, pedal-assist level, average speed, cargo, and throttle use.

My experience riding the POP reinforces the same thing I’ve seen with other e-bikes: the harder you ask the motor to work, the faster the battery drops.

I would treat Mooncool’s 60-mile figure as a best-case PAS 1 claim rather than the distance every rider should expect.

For normal recreational riding, errands, campground trips, and moderate commuting, I think the approximately 653Wh battery is a reasonable size.

The battery is removable, which I appreciate. It makes indoor charging easier and gives you the option of storing the battery somewhere more temperature controlled.

Mooncool estimates charging time at about 7 hours with the included 54.6V 2A charger.

Display and Tech

The display is another area where the Mooncool POP did well in my testing.

The bike uses a 3.5-inch color display, and it is bright, clear, and easy for me to read while riding.

One of the biggest positives for me is daytime visibility.

I had no problem seeing the display in sunlight.

That matters more than people sometimes realize.

I have ridden e-bikes where the display looks perfectly fine indoors, but once you get outside in bright daylight it becomes difficult to read.

I did not have that issue with the POP.

I could glance down and see the information without struggling to make out the screen.

The display provides five pedal-assist levels, and Mooncool lists an adjustable speed-limit setting from approximately 12 to 28 mph. The manufacturer’s default safe-speed listing is 20 mph.

The technology package also includes:

• 5 pedal-assist levels
• Torque-sensor assistance
• Switchable alternate sensor mode listed by Mooncool
• Adjustable speed-limit settings
• Bright color display
• Front LED headlight
• Rear running light
• Brake-light function
• Rear turn signals
• Motor cutoff through the brake levers

I especially like having turn signals integrated into a bike at this price.

They don’t replace checking over your shoulder or riding defensively, but they are another useful visibility feature.

I did not find built-in GPS or cellular tracking listed in Mooncool’s current POP specifications, so those are not features I would buy this bike expecting to have.

Personally, that doesn’t bother me.

The display gives me the information I actually need while riding, and the fact that I can easily see it in sunlight is more useful to me than having unnecessary technology added just for the sake of it.

Hydraulic Brakes and Safety

The braking system is one of the POP’s stronger features.

Mooncool uses hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors front and rear.

That is exactly the type of braking setup I want to see on a 67 lb e-bike with a manufacturer-rated 330 lb payload.

The brakes feel more confident to me than the inexpensive mechanical brakes I have used on some budget e-bikes.

I don’t need to squeeze the levers as hard, and the stopping response feels easier to control.

The levers also cut power to the motor when the brakes are applied.

I like the rear lighting setup as well.

You get a normal running light, a brighter brake-light function, and turn signals.

Mooncool currently states that the POP is SGS certified to the UL 2849 standard, and its detailed battery specification says the 48V 13.6Ah battery is UL 2271 certified by SGS.

I am treating those as manufacturer certification statements rather than claiming I independently performed certification testing.

Because Mooncool says the POP’s speed setting can be adjusted above the default 20 mph setting, I would also pay attention to local e-bike classifications. Folding the Mooncool POP

This is one area where the POP really impressed me.

It is easy to fold.

And I mean that in comparison with another folding e-bike we actually own.

Our other folding bike is considerably more difficult to fold and takes more effort to deal with.

The Mooncool POP is much more straightforward.

That matters because a folding bike is only useful as a folding bike if you are actually willing to fold it.

If the process is awkward, stiff, or frustrating every time, you eventually stop wanting to use the feature.

I don’t feel that way about the POP.

The folding mechanism is simple enough that storing or transporting the bike feels practical rather than like a chore.

I can see this being especially useful for RV storage, campers, SUVs and other vehicles, garages, offices, smaller homes, and anyone who wants to reduce the amount of space an e-bike occupies.

There is one specification problem worth knowing about if you are buying the POP specifically for a tight storage compartment.

Mooncool’s current geometry section lists a folded size of approximately 34.7 x 16.9 x 29.5 inches. However, the FAQ immediately below currently answers the POP folded-size question with dimensions for the TK1 Folding.

Because Mooncool’s own page conflicts with itself, I would confirm the current POP’s actual folded dimensions with Mooncool if an inch or two will determine whether it fits your RV compartment, trunk, or other storage area.

Rear Cargo Rack and Everyday Utility

Another feature I really like on the Mooncool POP is the integrated rear cargo rack.

This isn’t a small rack that looks like it was added as an afterthought. It is built into the rear of the bike and feels like part of the overall design.

I also think it adds to the POP’s usefulness as an everyday e-bike.

If you’re using the bike for errands, campground riding, commuting, or recreational trips, having a rack already installed gives you the option of adding a compatible bag, basket, or other cargo setup without immediately having to shop for an aftermarket rack.

Mooncool lists the rear rack with a 120 lb maximum load rating.

I have not personally loaded the rack anywhere near that amount, so I am treating 120 lb as Mooncool’s published specification rather than something I independently tested.

What I can say from having the bike in front of me is that the rack looks and feels substantial.

I also like how well it blends into the frame.

On some folding e-bikes, the rear rack can make the bike look bulky or tacked on. With the POP, I think the rack actually works with the styling of the bike.

It is another one of those features that makes the POP feel like more than just a folding bike.

For me, it makes the bike more practical for the kind of everyday riding I would actually use it for.

Weight, Maneuverability, and Security

The POP has a claimed net weight of 67 lb.

Before I had the bike, I expected that weight to make it fairly awkward to move.

I was pleasantly surprised.

It is not especially hard for me to maneuver when lifting or repositioning it.

I still know I’m dealing with a substantial e-bike, but the weight doesn’t feel as awkward as the number on paper might suggest.

The integrated frame handle and the way the bike balances help when I need to reposition it.

That is especially useful when I’m moving it around a garage, getting it into position to fold, or loading and unloading it.

There is a flip side to that convenience.

The fact that the POP folds easily and is more manageable to move than I expected also made me think about security.

I would not count on the bike’s weight alone to discourage someone from stealing it.

If I leave it unattended in public, I would use a quality lock and secure the frame to a fixed object whenever possible.

Hands-On Ride Quality and Handling

Once I’m actually riding the POP, the folding mechanism mostly disappears from the experience.

That is probably one of the best compliments I can give it.

The bike rides very smoothly.

It feels planted enough that I’m not constantly reminded I’m on a compact folding e-bike.

The 20×3-inch tires help give it stability without feeling as bulky as some 4-inch fat-tire bikes I have ridden.

The low frame also helps at slower speeds because getting a foot down when stopping is easy.

I think that will appeal to newer riders and anyone who simply prefers a bike that feels manageable when starting and stopping.

The full suspension is comfort-oriented rather than something I would treat as a reason to use the POP like an aggressive mountain bike.

For pavement, rough neighborhood roads, campgrounds, casual gravel, and everyday recreational riding, the setup makes sense to me.

And I have to mention the appearance again.

The POP has a clean, attractive design.

I like the way it looks, and I think Mooncool did a good job making the POP look like a complete e-bike rather than a collection of components attached to a folding frame.

What Riders Are Saying

Because the POP is still new, there isn’t a large owner-review pool yet.

As of September 6, 2026, Mooncool’s POP product page displayed two customer reviews, and both were rated 5 out of 5.

The positive comments line up fairly closely with what I have experienced.

Those riders specifically mentioned motor power, smooth riding and pedal assistance, the torque/cadence-style sensor setup, full-suspension comfort, hydraulic braking, shifting, and higher-speed capability.

Those comments make sense based on my experience with the bike.

But two reviews are still only two reviews.

I’m not going to call that a proven long-term reliability record.

There simply aren’t enough owners yet to know whether recurring issues will develop with the folding hinge, suspension, electronics, battery, display, or motor after thousands of miles.

For now, I would describe rider feedback as very positive but still limited.

What I Don’t Like About the Mooncool POP

I’ve enjoyed riding the POP, but there are a few things I would change or at least keep in mind before buying.

The Stock Thumb Throttle Is Touchy

This is probably the biggest control-related issue for me personally.

The thumb throttle on my bike felt sensitive when I first started using it.

If you have never ridden an e-bike with this type of throttle, I would give yourself some time to become familiar with it.

I prefer having more gradual control, which is why my husband installed the half-twist throttle from my old Vivi e-bike on the right side of my POP.

That setup works better for my personal preference.

Again, that is a modification to my own bike, not the stock configuration of the POP I received.

The Weight

At a claimed 67 lb, this bike is lighter than some very heavy folding e-bikes, and I was surprised by how manageable it feels when I need to reposition it.

But I still would not call 67 lb lightweight.

If I had to carry it up several flights of stairs every day, I would want something considerably lighter.

The Battery Could Be Larger

The 48V 13.6Ah battery is perfectly reasonable for this bike.

But it isn’t huge.

If Mooncool eventually offers a higher-capacity battery option for the POP, I think that could make the bike even more appealing to riders who prioritize longer trips.

Mooncool Needs to Clean Up Its Specifications

This is probably my biggest complaint that has nothing to do with how the bike actually rides.

Mooncool’s current POP pages do not agree on every specification.

The biggest examples I found are the throttle description and folded dimensions.

The POP Components page lists a thumb throttle, which matches my bike, while another specification section lists a twist throttle. The FAQ also answers a POP folded-size question using the name and dimensions of the TK1 Folding.

When someone is spending over $1,000 on an e-bike, I think those details should be consistent across the website.

The Return Policy Needs Clarification

The POP product page advertises 30-day worry-free returns.

Mooncool’s detailed U.S. return policy also says customers should contact the company within 30 days and describes buyer-remorse returns where the customer pays return freight.

However, the same policy separately states that sale items are non-refundable.

Since the POP is currently advertised at a sale price, those statements appear to conflict.

If the ability to return the bike is important to you, I would get written clarification from Mooncool about the return eligibility of the exact POP order before purchasing.

Unboxing & Assembly

The POP made a very good first impression when it arrived.

The shipping box was in very good condition, and the bike was extremely well packed inside.

I have received enough e-bikes to know that this is not something I take for granted.

A bike can be perfectly good at the factory and still arrive with problems if it isn’t packed well enough for shipping.

Mooncool did a good job here.

I was equally impressed with the instructions.

The manual was detailed and included excellent pictures.

That made the setup much easier to follow.

I have had other e-bikes where the included instructions were lacking, and you end up trying to figure out what the manufacturer meant or searching online for information that should have been in the box.

I didn’t have that same frustration with the POP.

Mooncool says the bike arrives approximately 90% pre-assembled, so you are not building the entire bicycle from scratch.

Even with a mostly assembled e-bike, I always recommend checking handlebar and stem alignment, folding latch security, pedals, brake operation, wheel security, tire pressure, derailleur shifting, seat-post height, and all visible fasteners.

The folding latch is one area I pay particular attention to before riding.

I want to make sure it is fully secured every time the bike is unfolded.

Mooncool’s official assembly guides are also worth reviewing.

Customer Service, Warranty, Returns, and Financing

Mooncool’s current detailed warranty policy lists:

• Frame: Lifetime warranty
• Battery: 2 years
• Motor: 1 year
• Throttle: 1 year
• Display: 1 year
• Brakes, fork, charger, drivetrain parts, and many other listed components: 1 year

The policy says this coverage applies to the first owner and requires an order number. It also lists exclusions for wear items, improper assembly, misuse, unauthorized service or parts, water damage in certain circumstances, and other conditions.

The return policy is the area I would clarify before ordering.

Mooncool describes a 30-day return process and says customers returning a product for personal reasons are responsible for return freight.

However, the same policy says sale items are non-refundable.

Because the POP is currently advertised at a sale price, I would ask Mooncool how that rule applies to the exact bike you are purchasing and keep the response in writing.

Mooncool also currently offers a Klarna / Afterpay payment option. Its financing page describes splitting an eligible purchase into four interest-free payments, subject to the payment provider’s terms and approval.

Price and Value

At the current listed sale price of $1,199.99, I think the Mooncool POP has a strong feature list for the money.

You are getting a 750W rated motor, full suspension, torque sensor, hydraulic brakes, 180mm rotors, color display, rear turn signals, brake light, rear rack, fenders, an adjustable cockpit, and a folding frame.

What makes the POP appealing to me isn’t just one individual feature.

It’s how complete the bike feels.

The smooth ride, easy folding mechanism, useful display, comfortable suspension, and surprisingly manageable handling all contribute to the value.

Even smaller things like good packaging and a useful instruction manual matter when you’re buying an e-bike that arrives at your home.

I think the biggest unanswered value question is long-term ownership simply because the POP is still a newer model.

But based on the bike I have been riding, my experience so far has been very positive.

How It Compares in Its Price Range

The folding e-bike category has become extremely competitive.

A few years ago, features such as torque sensors and hydraulic brakes were much less common at this price.

Now buyers have more choices.

The POP stands out to me because of the combination of full suspension, 750W rated motor, torque-sensor pedal assist, hydraulic brakes, integrated rack, turn signals, low step-through frame, 20×3-inch tires, and an easy folding design.

The folding system deserves extra credit here.

We already own another folding e-bike, so I have a real point of comparison.

The Mooncool POP is significantly easier for us to fold.

That may sound simple, but for an RV traveler, camper, commuter, or anyone putting the bike into a vehicle frequently, I think it can make a big difference in day-to-day ownership.

Should You Buy the Mooncool POP?

The Mooncool POP is one of those bikes that surprised me more than I expected.

Before riding it, I mostly saw it as another folding e-bike.

After spending time with it, I think that description undersells it.

It rides smoothly.

It is comfortable.

It looks stylish.

It is much easier to fold than another folding e-bike we own.

The display is bright enough that I can actually see it in sunlight.

And even though Mooncool lists the bike at 67 lb, I was pleasantly surprised by how manageable it is when I need to lift or reposition it.

You’re getting a 750W rated rear hub motor, full front and rear suspension, a 48V 13.6Ah removable battery, torque-sensor pedal assist, hydraulic disc brakes, 20×3-inch tires, a bright color display, turn signals and brake light, rear cargo rack, front and rear fenders, a low step-through frame, and an easy folding design.

Personally, I think the bike’s biggest strength is how everything works together.

The suspension and tires make it comfortable.

The torque sensor makes pedal assist feel natural.

The folding system makes it practical.

The hydraulic brakes add confidence.

And the bright display, rack, fenders, lights, and turn signals make the POP feel like a complete everyday e-bike rather than a bare-bones folder.

The thumb throttle is one area I personally wasn’t as fond of.

It felt touchy to me and took some getting used to. My husband installed a half-twist throttle from my old Vivi e-bike on the right side of my handlebar, which suits my riding preference better.

That is a personal modification, however, and not how my Mooncool POP arrived from the factory.

You should buy this bike if you want a smooth, comfortable, stylish folding e-bike for commuting, RV travel, campground cruising, recreational rides, errands, or neighborhood riding and you want something that folds without turning the process into a struggle.

You should skip this bike if you need something genuinely lightweight, routinely carry your bike up several flights of stairs, want the largest possible battery, or need a particular local-service arrangement that is not available in your area.

The Mooncool POP isn’t perfect.

I would like a slightly less sensitive stock throttle, a larger battery option would be nice, and Mooncool could do a better job keeping every specification and policy consistent across its website.

But those things don’t change the fact that my hands-on experience with this bike has been very positive.

The POP is comfortable, capable, stylish, easy to fold, easy to read in bright daylight, and more manageable to move around than its claimed 67 lb weight made me expect.

Even the delivery experience was good. The box arrived in great condition, the bike was well protected, and the detailed instructions with clear pictures were noticeably better than what I have received with some other e-bikes.

For someone looking for a full-suspension folding e-bike around the $1,200 mark, I think the Mooncool POP deserves serious consideration.

Alternative #1: Lectric XP4

I would consider the Lectric XP4 instead if you place more value on a well-established folding-bike platform and a large accessory ecosystem.

I would also look at the Aventon Sinch 2.5 if you want another established folding e-bike to compare before making your decision.

For me, the Mooncool POP’s biggest advantages are its full-suspension comfort, useful included features, and easy folding design.

Before you buy: Check the current price and stock status, verify that the folded dimensions work for your vehicle or storage area, confirm which throttle configuration is currently shipping, review Mooncool’s current return policy, and check the e-bike speed and class rules where you plan to ride. Because this bike is relatively easy to fold and move, I would also plan for a good locking setup if you expect to leave it unattended in public.
