Electric Podbike Frikar: Enclosed E-Bike with Dome Windshield for Cold-Weather Comfort

Spread the love

Last Updated on May 19, 2025 by Kristina

If you’re looking for an e-bike that lets you ride through winter without freezing, meet the Podbike Frikar. This four-wheeled electric vehicle comes with a dome-shaped windshield that shields riders from wind, rain, and cold. It’s not your typical e-bike—this one wraps you in comfort.

The Frikar was first introduced in 2017. Its official global launch followed in 2021, with a focus on the European market. Right now, it’s available in Norway and Germany. In 2025, Podbike plans to expand across more EU countries. Switzerland is next, with test rides and orders already open through local dealer Elfar. Belgium and France are expected to receive deliveries before summer 2025.

A Design Built for Comfort and Speed

The Frikar’s standout feature is its aerodynamic design. Its curved windshield isn’t just for looks—it helps air glide over the vehicle, cutting drag to a minimum. In fact, it produces the same air resistance as a racing bicycle. That makes it surprisingly fast and energy-efficient.

Rain or snow? No problem. The enclosure keeps the rider dry and warm. It even comes with optional windshield wipers for better visibility in rough weather.

Smooth Riding with Pedal Assist

This e-bike has pedals, but you won’t need to work too hard. The dual electric motors offer pedal assist, allowing speeds up to 25 km/h (15.5 mph). Riders can go between 50 to 80 kilometers (31 to 50 miles) on a full charge.

Need to stop quickly? The Frikar includes automatic braking at 50 km/h (31 mph)—a built-in safety feature that keeps things under control.

Built for Real Roads

Because the Frikar is classified as an e-bike, you don’t need a driver’s license or registration. You can take it on bike lanes or the road. And at just 84 cm (33 inches) wide, it’s about the size of a standard bike trailer. That means it’s narrow enough for city paths but sturdy enough for real-world commuting.

Instead of a chain, the Frikar uses a belt drive. This cuts down on maintenance and wear. Like many modern electric vehicles, it also receives over-the-air updates. There’s even a smartphone app to monitor performance and system health in real time.

What’s Next for Podbike?

After Norway and Germany, Switzerland is getting ready for launch. Next up: Belgium and France, with deliveries planned before summer 2025. Podbike is clearly aiming to make the Frikar a common sight on European roads.

With its enclosed body, smart design, and winter-ready features, the Podbike Frikar is pushing the boundaries of what an e-bike can be.
