RadRunner Max Is Here—28 MPH, Built to Haul, and Smarter Than Ever
Last Updated on May 5, 2025 by Kristina
Rad Power Bikes just gave its beloved utility e-bike line a serious upgrade. Say hello to the RadRunner Max—a rugged, feature-packed machine that’s fast, strong, and surprisingly tech-savvy.
This isn’t just a new version. It’s a full evolution. Topping out at 28 mph and capable of hauling 420 pounds, the Max is built for serious riders who need performance and practicality in one package.
From Garage Project to Industry Giant
What started in a garage in the early 2000s has grown into the biggest e-bike brand in the U.S. Rad Power Bikes has spent the last decade building everything from commuters to trikes. But the RadRunner? That’s the one that changed the game.
First launched in 2019, the RadRunner was all about compact utility and affordability. It featured a low-step frame, a rear hub motor, and space for cargo. A year later, the RadRunner Plus added premium touches. Fast forward to now, and the Max is stepping in with a whole new vibe—and a serious performance boost.

What Makes the Max… the Max
It still has a 750W rear hub motor, but now it’s a Class 3 e-bike. You’ll get up to 28 mph with pedal assist, or drop it back to 20 mph if your city requires it. A torque sensor, fine-tuned by Rad’s RideLogic system, gives you five levels of assist that feel smooth and responsive. There’s also a throttle for when you just want to cruise.
No need to overthink shifting. The 8-speed Shimano drivetrain keeps it simple but capable. Torque tops out at a solid 90 Nm, which means it can handle hills, gear, and passengers with ease.
Load It Up and Go
The Max was made to haul. It supports up to 420 lbs, with the rear rack alone rated for 120 lbs. That’s grocery trips, gear, a kid seat—you name it. There are also mounts for a front basket, bottle cage, and more if you want to go full cargo mode.
The 672Wh semi-integrated battery uses heat-resistant resin to guard against corrosion and overheating. Rad calls it Safe Shield, and it’s good for up to 65 miles on low assist. Want more? A range extender adds another 60+ miles for $249.

Safety and Smart Tech, Too
The Max isn’t just muscle. It’s loaded with features you usually only see on higher-end bikes.
There’s a radar sensor built into the taillight that warns you about cars coming from behind—up to 330 feet away. The light flashes to alert them, and your screen shows the distance. It even has turn signals and a headlight that adjusts based on the lighting around you.
Suspension up front gives you 80mm of travel, which is great for urban bumps or gravel shortcuts. It rolls on 20-inch wheels with 3.5-inch tires, and it parks solidly thanks to a dual-leg kickstand.
Misplace your bike? It works with Apple’s FindMy network, so you can track it right from your iPhone.
