But here’s the flip side. Not everyone rides an e-bike recklessly. Many people use them to commute, exercise, or get around without a car. A blanket ban risks punishing responsible riders along with the careless ones.
It also raises an equity issue: e-bikes are more affordable than cars and give mobility to people who don’t drive. Cutting off access in public parks could push riders into traffic-heavy streets, which may actually be more dangerous.
My view: instead of outright bans, we need balanced solutions — clear speed limits in parks, better enforcement against reckless riding, and education for young riders. Pair that with stronger safety standards for batteries and equipment, and we can make e-bikes safer without banning them outright.
