VanMoof is Back โ€” And They Just Launched Two New E-Bikes

Spread the love

VanMoof, the Dutch e-bike brand known for its sleek and high-tech bikes, is making a comeback. After filing for bankruptcy in 2023, the company is trying to win back riders with two new models: the VanMoof S6 and S6 Open (the low-step version).

The past few years were tough for VanMoof. Their earlier bikes were packed with advanced tech, but that made them expensive and tricky to fix. This led to financial trouble. But now, under new ownership, VanMoof is back and ready to make a splash again.

At first glance, the new S6 looks a lot like the previous S5. But under the surface, itโ€™s been improved with five generations and over a decade of e-bike experience.

The bikeโ€™s specs will be familiar if you know European e-bike rules. Itโ€™s limited to 25 km/h (about 15 mph) and has a front hub motor rated at 250W, though the real power might be a bit higher. The torque reaches 68 Nm, which helps with acceleration.

VanMoof promises a battery range between 60 and 150 km (roughly 37 to 93 miles), depending on how you ride. The battery has a bright halo indicator to show you how much juice is left โ€” easier to see than before. However, you canโ€™t remove the battery to charge it separately. Charging takes 2.5 hours to get halfway and 6.5 hours for a full charge.

The S6 is pedal-assist only, but thereโ€™s a cool Boost Button for a quick power burst. This helps you jump off the line faster when the light turns green. To slow down safely, the bike uses hydraulic disc brakes.

Shifting gears is automatic thanks to an upgraded rear hub. It senses when you need to shift up or down through three gears โ€” no buttons required. The bike also includes Apple FindMy tracking to help recover it if itโ€™s stolen.

VanMoofโ€™s signature Kick Lock is back too. It locks the rear wheel, stopping thieves in their tracks. Plus, smart lights are integrated into the frame, making nighttime rides safer and stylish.

The bike weighs about 23 kg (50 lbs). While it doesnโ€™t have built-in suspension, thereโ€™s an optional seat post with 30 mm of travel to smooth out bumps.

There are two frame styles: the S6 with 27.5โ€ wheels for taller riders (up to 6โ€™10โ€), and the S6 Open with smaller 24โ€ wheels, perfect for shorter riders (down to 4โ€™11โ€).

If youโ€™re interested, reservations are open now. It costs โ‚ฌ150 (about $165) to hold your spot. The S6 starts at โ‚ฌ3,298 (around $3,750). Choose from blue, light grey, or black. Deliveries start in August.

VanMoofโ€™s new bikes show the brand is serious about coming back strong. Will riders give them another shot? Time will tell.

Ready to ride the future? Reserve your VanMoof S6 today and be among the first to experience the rebooted ride in August.
