Which ebike holds up best when used in sand (ocean)?
Which bike would you recommend for an out of shape 75yo, 5’8″ under 165lb; still mobile. I’ll mostly use the bike for travel under 10 miles total, but carrying capacity is important. For a first bike I’m willing to spend up to $1500 dollars, but would pay more if necessary. Options that are important to me:

👍 can be peddled for extra mileage or when battery is dead

Hi Jim – thanks for the detailed question. That really helps narrow things down.
For riding near the ocean, the biggest thing that helps is wider tires. Bikes with wider tires float better on sand and don’t sink as easily as narrow road tires. Even then, loose dry sand can still be tough, but hard-packed sand near the waterline rides much easier.
Based on your height, weight, budget, and cargo needs, here are three e-bikes I’d recommend looking at.
1. Lectric XP 3.0 (Step-Through)
This is one of the best value e-bikes on the market and a great first bike.
Why it fits what you described:
removable battery (easy to swap a second battery)
rear rack rated around 150 lb, which is excellent for carrying cargo
wide tires for stability on mixed terrain
step-through frame option that’s easier to mount and dismount
reliable company with widely available parts
2. Ride1Up Portola
Another solid option around the same price range.
