Gazelle Debuts Affordable Bosch-Powered E-Bikes: Medio T9, T9 City, and Ultimate C8
Bosch-powered electric bikes are typically associated with higher price tags, but Gazelle is changing the game with its latest offerings. Renowned for its Dutch-made quality, Gazelle is expanding its lineup in the US with the 2024 releases of the Medio T9, Medio T9 City, and Ultimate C8, all designed to be more budget-friendly while maintaining high standards of performance.
These new models represent a significant update from Gazelleβs previous US offerings, featuring redesigned frames, fresh aesthetics, and a focus on a broader range of riders. One notable innovation is the introduction of a true step-through design. This shift aligns with current trends where many e-bike manufacturers are moving away from traditional step-over frames in favor of more accessible step-through designs.
According to Gazelle, βThe re-engineered frame provides enhanced stiffness and stability, making it easier for riders, especially those in urban environments or older riders, to mount and dismount the bike.β

The updated Medio T9 and Medio T9 City are among the most affordable Bosch-powered mid-drive e-bikes available in the US. The Medio T9 City starts at $2,299, while the all-road Medio T9 is priced at $2,599. Both models feature step-through frames available in four sizes, including a new XS size designed for shorter riders ranging from 4β9β³ to 5β2β³ (145 to 157 cm). These e-bikes can achieve speeds of up to 20 mph (32 km/h) with pedal assist, classifying them as Class 1 e-bikes.
Key features of both models include 75mm-travel Suntour spring suspension forks, dual-piston Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, and practical components like fenders, rear racks, LED lighting, and frame locks. The Medio T9 offers a more robust Shimano Alivio 9-speed drivetrain and a Bosch Active Line Plus motor with 50 Nm of torque, compared to the Bosch Active Line motor with 40 Nm on the T9 City. Additionally, the Medio T9 comes with a 545 Wh battery, surpassing the 400 Wh battery of the T9 City.
The transition to an on-tube battery design in these models lowers the bikesβ center of gravity compared to previous rack-mounted battery designs.
For riders seeking a more premium option, the Gazelle Ultimate C8 is a top choice. Priced at $3,999, this model features a step-through frame combined with a Gates Carbon Drive belt system and a Shimano Nexus 8-speed internally geared hub. The Ultimate C8 also includes a mono-integrated suspension stem with 40mm of travel, high-end LED lighting, and a MIK-compatible rear rack for versatile accessory mounting. It is powered by a Bosch Active Line Plus motor and a 500 Wh battery.
Mark Danhof, General Manager for Gazelle North America, commented, βWeβre excited to offer high-quality e-bikes to the North American market at accessible prices. With these new models, riders donβt have to compromise on safety, reliability, or features. Our e-bikes are designed for top performance and convenience, ensuring a pleasant and worry-free ride.β
Gazelleβs latest updates bring a modern look to their popular e-bikes in the US while retaining the brandβs Dutch heritage. The new, smaller frame size will be especially welcome to shorter riders. While these models may not be the flashiest on the market, they promise exceptional build quality and the reassurance of a company with over 130 years of experience.
