Raleigh Launches Captus: Affordable Bosch-Powered E-Bike

Spread the love

Last Updated on August 29, 2025 by Kristina

If you’ve been waiting for an affordable Bosch-powered e-bike, Raleigh has just delivered. The new Captus blends three big things riders want: name-brand parts, comfort-focused design, and a price that doesn’t sting.

At £1,899 (about $2,400 USD), this is one of the cheapest ways to ride with a Bosch mid-drive motor.

Motor and Battery

The Captus uses the Bosch Active Line system. It’s the entry-level Bosch motor, but still smooth and torque-sensing. You’ll find it on pricier commuter bikes too.

It pushes out 40 Nm of torque. Enough for daily city rides and light hills. Paired with a 400 Wh PowerPack battery, it offers a practical range for commuting. Top speed is capped at 15.5 mph (25 km/h), keeping it street-legal in the UK and EU.

Frame and Fork Options

Raleigh kept things simple. You can choose a low-step frame for easy mounting or a mid-step version for a sportier look.

Here’s a key detail: the mid-step has a rigid fork. It won’t smooth out potholes or rough roads. But the step-through model comes with a 50 mm suspension fork, which adds some cushion.

Either way, the bike is kitted out with mudguards, lights, and a rear rack. It’s ready for commuting straight out of the box.

Gears and Components

The Captus runs a 9-speed Shimano CUES drivetrain. That gives a decent range for flat streets and suburban climbs.

Comfort hasn’t been ignored. Raleigh added 50 mm wide tires, a Selle Royal Essenza saddle, and ergonomic grips. Combine that with the upright frame geometry, and you’ve got a relaxed riding position built for casual trips.

Display and Simplicity

Don’t expect fancy gadgets here. The Captus uses a Bosch Purion display. It shows the basics—battery, speed, and assist mode. That’s it.

For many riders, that’s perfect. No clutter. No over-complication. Just a simple ride.

Who It’s For

The Captus isn’t Raleigh’s top model. It doesn’t try to be. It’s a budget play to bring Bosch quality to more riders.

If you’re after a rugged mountain bike, look elsewhere. But if you want a comfortable commuter or an everyday e-bike that won’t break the bank, the Captus fits the bill.

Final Word

The Raleigh Captus proves you don’t need £3,000+ to get into the Bosch club. Under £2k, you still get the trusted motor, decent parts, and commuter-friendly features.

Yes, corners are cut—like the rigid fork on the mid-step. But overall, this is a smart, value-driven e-bike that opens the door for more people to ride electric.
