D.C. Residents Can Apply for $1,500 E-Bike Voucher Starting February 1st

The District of Columbia’s Department of Transportation (DDOT) is bringing back the highly anticipated E-Bike Incentive Program for 2025, offering eligible residents the chance to receive up to $1,500 in vouchers toward the purchase of an electric bike. This initiative is designed to help low-income D.C. residents make the transition to eco-friendly transportation while supporting local bike shops across the city.
Program Details and Eligibility
Applications for the Preferred and Standard Applicants will be open from February 1 to February 21, 2025.
- Preferred Applicants are D.C. residents who are enrolled in government assistance programs such as SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, or the DC Healthcare Alliance.
- Standard Applicants include all other D.C. residents who do not participate in these programs.
Whether you’re a Preferred or Standard Applicant, all eligible residents can apply for a voucher that covers up to $1,500 for an e-bike purchase, plus a free helmet and bike lock.
How It Works
Once the application window closes on February 21, vouchers will be awarded randomly to selected applicants. This lottery system ensures a fair distribution of funds and gives everyone a chance to benefit from the program.
A Growing Program for D.C. Residents
Last year, the E-Bike Incentive Program helped 293 residents in the District purchase an e-bike, providing them with an affordable alternative to car travel and promoting cleaner, greener transportation. The success of the program has prompted DDOT to expand it in 2025, aiming to help even more residents reduce their carbon footprint while avoiding the hassle of traffic congestion.
According to Sharon Kershbaum, Director of the D.C. Department of Transportation, “As the program enters its second year, we are excited to help even more residents become e-bike owners. With more people choosing e-bikes over single-occupancy vehicle trips, we are contributing to a reduction in traffic congestion and better air quality in the city.”
How to Apply
To apply, visit the official DDOT website at ddot.dc.gov/ebikes or attend one of the community partner events in-person. For more details about the application process and event locations, click here.
This program not only provides a cost-effective way to own an e-bike but also helps D.C. residents make a positive environmental impact. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this exciting initiative and switch to a cleaner, more sustainable way to get around the city.
