Free E-Bike Vouchers for West Palm Beach Workers and Residents This Summer
Big news for downtown West Palm Beach! A local nonprofit, WPBgo, is giving away $30,000 worth of electric bike vouchers this summer. If you live or work downtown, you could qualify for one.
They’re offering 40 vouchers, each worth between $500 and $1,000. You can apply now at wpbgo.com/ebike, but don’t wait—applications close on August 16.
This program is funded by the Knight Foundation, based in Miami. WPBgo says it’s all about giving people better, cheaper ways to get around.
“E-bikes are a congestion-fighting tool that also makes people happier and healthier,” said WPBgo’s Executive Director Jonathan Hopkins. “This is about supporting our downtown workforce with affordable, reliable transportation.”
This isn’t their first time helping riders. Back in May and June, WPBgo gave out 20 vouchers to residents just north of downtown. That round focused on helping lower-income folks.
This new round aims at downtown workers—especially those in entry-level or service jobs—who still face high costs getting to work, even if they earn more.
“A citywide program would need more funding,” said WPBgo Program Director Amelia Sherfield. “But for now, we want to support this workforce with better options.”
WPBgo’s big goal? Less traffic, more mobility. They’re working with nonprofits and government agencies to make that happen.
In fact, they’ve already done more than e-bikes. Last September, they spent $20,000 on bus passes through Palm Tran, helping downtown employees get to work for free. That was made possible by a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation. The results of that program are expected later this year.
So, if you live or work in downtown West Palm Beach, this could be your chance. An e-bike voucher could make your commute cheaper, greener, and a lot more fun.
