Orbea Optima Recall: Stop Riding Affected 2019-2020 E-Bikes

September 10, 2026: Owners of certain 2019 and 2020 Orbea Optima electric bikes are being told to stop riding because a potentially weak welded joint in the frame could fail while the bike is in use.

The warning is serious because a frame failure can happen while a rider is moving and could lead to a sudden crash. UK product-safety authorities have published a recall notice for affected Orbea Optima bikes, with ORBEA UK recalling the affected bicycles from end users. Australian regulators have also issued a recall covering certain Optima Asphalt and Comfort models. Current Status: Affected Bikes Should Not Be Ridden

The UK Office for Product Safety and Standards published its Orbea Optima recall notice on August 11, 2026. The agency says the welded joint in the middle of the frame may fail, allowing the frame to break during use and potentially causing a rider to fall and be injured.

The UK notice specifically tells affected consumers to stop riding the bike immediately and take it to their closest Orbea dealer for a replacement frame.

Australia issued a related recall on August 19, 2026. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission says a fault in the bike’s frame welding may cause the frame to break while in use, creating a risk of death, serious injury, or property damage, including potential harm to other road users.

The Australian recall directs affected owners to stop using the bike and contact an Orbea dealer to arrange a free replacement.

Which Orbea Optima E-Bikes Are Affected?

The UK recall covers Orbea Optima model-year 2019 and 2020 e-bikes from an affected production batch identified by a stamped code containing 19A.

The Australian recall describes the affected bikes as Optima Asphalt and Optima Comfort step-through e-bikes. Australian authorities say affected bikes have a VIN containing SNKIN19A.

The Australian bikes covered by that recall were sold nationally and online from October 1, 2019 through December 31, 2020.

Because the UK and Australian recall notices use slightly different identification instructions, owners should follow the notice that applies to their location rather than assuming the codes are interchangeable. In the UK notice, the affected batch is identified by a stamped code containing 19A. In Australia, the recall specifically identifies a VIN containing SNKIN19A.

How to Check Your Orbea Optima

Check the stamped identification code on the frame and compare it with the official recall information for your country.

For the UK recall, the affected production code contains 19A. The official UK recall notice includes an image showing owners where to locate the stamped code.

For the Australian recall, owners are specifically instructed to check whether the VIN contains SNKIN19A.

If you cannot find the identification code or are unsure whether your bike is affected, do not guess. Contact an authorized Orbea dealer or Orbea customer support and ask them to confirm whether your individual bicycle is included in the recall.

What Owners Should Do Now

Stop riding an affected bike

Do not continue using the bike simply because the frame still looks normal. This recall concerns the strength of a welded joint, and a structural defect may not necessarily be obvious during a casual visual inspection.

Do not attempt a home frame repair

This is not a problem I would treat as a do-it-yourself welding or reinforcement project. The UK recall directs owners to an Orbea dealer for a replacement frame, while the Australian recall directs owners to an Orbea dealer for a free replacement. A safety-critical structural issue should be handled through Orbea and its authorized service network.

Why a Frame Weld Recall Matters

A motor or display problem can leave an e-bike without electrical assistance, but a structural frame failure creates a different kind of risk. If a critical frame joint separates while someone is riding, the rider may have very little opportunity to react before losing control.

That is why the stop-ride language in this recall matters. This is not a recommendation to schedule an inspection whenever convenient while continuing to ride in the meantime. Authorities are telling owners of affected bikes to stop using them until the recall remedy is completed.

What About Orbea Optima Owners in the United States?

As of September 10, 2026, I found no corresponding Orbea Optima recall notice in searches of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall database.

That does not prove that every U.S.-owned Optima is unaffected. If you own a 2019 or 2020 Optima in the United States and find 19A in the frame identification code, I would contact Orbea or an authorized Orbea dealer before riding it again and ask whether your individual bicycle is included in the corrective action.

If you know someone riding an older Orbea Optima, it is worth asking them to check the frame code. A bike that has ridden normally for years should not be assumed safe once a recall identifies a possible structural failure in the affected production batch.

Most importantly, owners should not try to decide whether the weld “looks good enough.” Check the identification code, stop riding if the bike is affected, and let Orbea or an authorized dealer handle the remedy.
