The Poodle Pro also has a few details that deserve a closer look before buying. Puckipuppy states that its battery is certified to UL 2271 by SGS, while UL 2849 certification for the complete e-bike is still in progress. The company’s current class information is also inconsistent because Puckipuppy labels the bike Class 2 while separately listing throttle assistance up to 20 mph and pedal assistance up to 28 mph.

Who the Puckipuppy Poodle Pro Is Good For – and Who Should Skip It
I think the Puckipuppy Poodle Pro makes the most sense for someone who wants a comfortable step-through commuter with a strong motor, a sizable battery, hydraulic brakes, and more refined pedal assist without moving into a much more expensive e-bike.
I think the Poodle Pro is a good fit if:
- You want a step-through frame that can make mounting and dismounting easier
- You ride city streets, neighborhood roads, paved bike paths where permitted, or recreational routes
- You want a 750W rated rear hub motor for commuting and everyday riding
- You prefer torque-based pedal response instead of relying on a basic cadence-only system
- You want hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm front and rear rotors
- You want a relatively large 720Wh battery for commuting and longer rides
- You prefer full-size 27.5 x 2.4 in. tires instead of bulky 4 in. fat tires
- You want an 80mm front suspension fork to help absorb rough pavement and everyday road imperfections
- You need an e-bike with a maximum load rating of up to 350 lb
- You want an 8-speed Shimano drivetrain so you can use mechanical gearing along with motor assistance
- You want adjustable handlebars and a stem that give you some flexibility to fine-tune your riding position
- You want a commuter-style e-bike around the $1,200 price range with a strong overall component package

- You want extensive independent range, braking, and hill-climbing test data for this specific model
- You want manufacturer documentation with a completely clear e-bike class designation
- You are uncomfortable with a return policy that can include substantial shipping, handling, and processing fees
- Having nearby in-person dealer service is essential and Puckipuppy’s dealer locator does not show a suitable dealer in your area

- Strong component package for $1,199.99. The Poodle Pro combines a 750W rated motor, 720Wh battery, torque plus cadence sensors, hydraulic brakes, Shimano 8-speed drivetrain, and front suspension.
- Useful 350 lb maximum load. That provides more headroom than many commuter bikes rated around 300 or 330 lb.
- Step-through frame. A lower-entry frame can make frequent stops and mounting easier for many riders.
- 27.5 x 2.4 in. tires. The tire size gives the Poodle Pro more volume than a narrow road setup without the bulk of 4 in. fat tires.
- Hydraulic brakes with 180mm rotors. Puckipuppy’s current comparison data lists hydraulic discs and 180mm rotors at both ends.
- Dual-sensor pedal assist. Using both torque and cadence information is a notable specification at this price.
- Puckipuppy states that the battery is SGS-certified to UL 2271. The certification claim is specifically tied to the battery rather than being presented here as complete-bike UL 2849 certification.
- A model-specific replacement battery is listed. Replacement-battery availability is an important consideration for long-term ownership, although price and availability should be checked when needed.

❌ Cons
- Complete UL 2849 certification is still listed as in progress. That may rule the bike out for buyers who specifically need a completely certified e-bike electrical system.
- The e-bike class documentation is inconsistent. Puckipuppy labels the Poodle Pro Class 2 but also advertises pedal assistance up to 28 mph.
- The return policy can be expensive. Opening and using the bike can expose the buyer to substantial shipping, handling, and processing fees if a return is needed.
- No published Nm torque figure. The manufacturer’s peak-wattage claim does not tell buyers as much about hill performance as a verified torque measurement or independent climbing test would.
- Limited independent Poodle Pro performance testing. I could not verify standardized braking, hill, or full-range results for this specific model.
- 63.1 lb is still substantial. The Poodle Pro is not an especially practical choice for someone who needs to carry an e-bike up several flights of stairs every day.
- Manufacturer documentation contains a few inconsistencies. In addition to the class issue, the current product page lists a thumb throttle while generic language in the owner’s manual refers to a twist throttle.
Key Features That Make the Poodle Pro Interesting
The strongest part of the Poodle Pro is not one headline specification. It is the amount of practical commuter equipment Puckipuppy has combined at the current price.
The 720Wh battery is substantial for a commuter in this price range. Hydraulic disc brakes are preferable to inexpensive mechanical brakes on a heavier e-bike, while the Shimano 8-speed drivetrain gives riders useful mechanical gearing instead of relying entirely on motor assistance.
The torque plus cadence sensor arrangement is another notable feature. A torque sensor reacts to pedaling force while a cadence sensor detects pedal rotation. Puckipuppy says the Poodle Pro uses both.

That does not automatically mean its pedal assist is better than every torque-sensor competitor. Controller programming and motor tuning affect how natural assistance feels. I still like seeing something more sophisticated than a basic cadence-only system on a city bike where controlled starts and low-speed riding matter.
Ride Quality and Comfort
I have not ridden the Poodle Pro personally, so I cannot tell you from firsthand experience how stable it feels, how smoothly the fork works, or whether the saddle will remain comfortable on a long ride.
On paper, the setup is sensible for a comfort-oriented commuter. The 27.5 x 2.4 in. tires are wider than narrow road-bike tires without moving into the bulk of a 4 in. fat-tire platform. The 80mm front fork provides suspension travel for rough pavement, cracks, curb transitions, and other everyday road imperfections.
The step-through frame should also make repeated mounting and dismounting easier than a high-step frame. Puckipuppy’s current product page lists adjustable handlebars and an adjustable seat post, which gives riders some ability to change their position.

Current verified-buyer comments hosted on Puckipuppy’s product page frequently mention the riding position, suspension, cockpit adjustment, and pedal-assist response positively. I consider that useful rider feedback, but it is important to remember that these reviews appear on the manufacturer’s own sales page rather than in an independent controlled test.
Motor and Performance

Puckipuppy rates the Poodle Pro’s rear hub motor at 750W and lists 1350W peak output. The 750W figure is the manufacturer’s rated specification, while the 1350W peak figure should be treated as a manufacturer claim rather than an independently measured result.
One missing specification is torque. Puckipuppy’s current Poodle Pro technical table does not publish an Nm torque number, so I would not try to rank its hill-climbing ability against bikes with independently or clearly documented torque measurements.
A 750W hub motor can provide useful assistance for commuting, but wattage alone does not tell you how quickly a bike will climb a steep grade. Rider weight, controller programming, motor efficiency, battery voltage, gearing, wheel size, incline, and temperature all affect hill performance.
The Poodle Pro’s Class 2 vs. 28 mph Documentation Conflict
Puckipuppy’s current documentation is not completely consistent about the Poodle Pro’s e-bike class. Its model-comparison data labels the Poodle Pro a Class 2 e-bike, but the product specifications separately state that the throttle is limited to 20 mph while pedal assistance can reach up to 28 mph.
Under the commonly used three-class framework, Class 2 assistance generally ends at 20 mph, while Class 3 pedal assistance can continue to 28 mph. State laws are not identical, and some states handle throttles or multi-class bikes differently.
For that reason, I would not simply call the Poodle Pro a Class 2 bike without qualification. Its advertised 28 mph pedal-assist capability aligns with Class 3 speed behavior in the common three-class system, despite Puckipuppy’s current Class 2 label.

Battery, Charging, and Range
The 48V 15Ah battery equals approximately 720Wh of nominal capacity. Watt-hours are useful because they account for both voltage and amp-hours, making them more meaningful than Ah alone when comparing batteries with different voltages.

Puckipuppy advertises a 45-75 mile range. I would treat that entire range as a manufacturer estimate, especially the 75-mile maximum. I did not locate a standardized independent Poodle Pro test documenting a full-charge range result under repeatable conditions.
Real-world range can change substantially with speed, assist level, throttle use, hills, wind, temperature, tire pressure, rider weight, cargo, starts and stops, and riding style. Buying based on the 720Wh battery capacity and your expected daily mileage is more useful than assuming you will regularly reach the maximum advertised figure.
The current product page lists a 54.6V 2A charger and calls it a fast charger, but it does not clearly publish a full charging time. Because I have not verified a complete charge-time test for the Poodle Pro, I am not assigning it an estimated number of hours.
Puckipuppy does currently list a Poodle Pro-specific replacement battery. Its site shows promotional and standalone battery pricing differently depending on where the battery is displayed, so I would confirm the current replacement price and shipping date directly before treating any displayed amount as the long-term replacement cost.
Brakes and Safety

The Poodle Pro uses hydraulic disc brakes, and Puckipuppy’s current comparison data lists 180mm rotors at the front and rear. That is an appropriate type of braking setup for a 63.1 lb powered bicycle capable of relatively high assisted speeds.
I did not find an independent Poodle Pro braking-distance test, so I cannot tell you how many feet it takes to stop from a particular speed or how its braking performance compares with a specific rival under identical conditions.
Before the first ride, check brake lever feel, wheel installation, brake operation, tire pressure, handlebar alignment, and fastener security. Puckipuppy’s warranty guidance strongly recommends having the bike inspected and tested by a certified bicycle technician before the first ride.

UL 2271 vs. UL 2849
Puckipuppy states that the battery used in the Poodle Pro is certified to UL 2271 by SGS. The company separately says certification of the complete Poodle Pro to UL 2849 by SGS is still in progress.
Those statements should not be combined into a claim that the complete bike is already UL 2849 certified. UL 2271 addresses batteries used in light electric vehicle applications, while UL 2849 addresses the broader electrical system of an e-bike.
That difference can matter for buyers whose building, workplace, insurer, school, or local jurisdiction has specific certification requirements. New York City has certification requirements affecting powered bicycles and their batteries, and Puckipuppy currently states that it does not sell or ship the Poodle Pro to NYC addresses.

Recall Check
I did not locate a U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall specifically naming the Puckipuppy Poodle Pro in my September 10, 2026 search. Recall status can change, so this should not be interpreted as a permanent guarantee that the model will never be subject to a future safety notice.
Reported Testing
I did not find a clearly identified independent Poodle Pro test with documented full-charge range, hill-climb, or braking measurements that I could confidently use in this review.
There is independent testing online for the earlier Puckipuppy Poodle, but the Poodle and Poodle Pro are different models. I did not use results from the standard Poodle as though they were Poodle Pro test results.
This limits the precision of my performance conclusions. I can verify current specifications, policies, certification language, rider feedback, and competing models, but I cannot turn those sources into a Poodle Pro braking distance, hill time, or real-world range number that has not actually been measured.
That is why I rate the evidence confidence for this review as moderate rather than high.

When I checked on September 10, 2026, Puckipuppy’s Poodle Pro page displayed an average rating of 4.7 out of 5 based on 115 reviews, with 93% of reviewers saying they would recommend the product.
Recent verified-buyer feedback on that page commonly mentions adjustable fit, suspension, the dual-sensor pedal-assist system, and everyday city use. Some comments also reinforce the importance of checking setup and adjustments after unboxing.
Those are useful owner experiences, but seller-hosted review scores are not the same as independent reliability data. They cannot establish a long-term failure rate or tell us how representative the reviewers are of all Poodle Pro owners.
For company-level context, Puckipuppy’s Trustpilot profile showed a 4.6 rating from 681 reviews when checked. Trustpilot’s current review summary includes substantial positive feedback around bikes, delivery, setup, and support, while also noting complaints involving faulty components and delays resolving some technical problems.
Those Trustpilot reviews cover Puckipuppy as a company and multiple bike models. They should not be treated as evidence that a particular problem is common on the Poodle Pro.

Unboxing and Assembly
Puckipuppy says its e-bikes arrive partially assembled and require additional assembly steps. The company provides a Poodle Pro owner manual through its support and warranty resources.
I could not verify a current published Poodle Pro shipping-box weight, so I would not guess one. Since the completed bike itself weighs 63.1 lb, having another person available to help move and unpack the carton may make setup easier.
Assembly should not end when the visible parts have been attached. Check wheel installation, brakes, handlebar alignment, drivetrain operation, tire pressure, electrical connections, and accessible fasteners before riding.
Puckipuppy specifically recommends that customers have their bikes inspected and tested by a certified bicycle technician before the first ride and says damage caused by improper assembly is not covered by its warranty.
Customer Service, Warranty, Returns, and Financing
Puckipuppy’s warranty is component-specific rather than a simple blanket 2-year warranty. The current policy lists 3 years for the frame or structure and 2 years for the motor assembly, controller and wiring harness, and battery. Other parts have shorter listed coverage periods.
The current warranty page also contains wording concerning battery charge cycles and capacity retention. However, the formatting of the warranty table makes the scope of that language less clear than I would like. I would confirm the exact battery-capacity warranty terms with Puckipuppy before relying on them as a guaranteed capacity figure.
There is another warranty detail worth reading carefully. The same policy lists coverage periods for several mechanical components while also stating elsewhere that third-party components such as drivetrain systems, brakes, or suspension are not covered under Puckipuppy’s warranty and may instead depend on the original component manufacturer’s warranty. If a particular component matters to you, ask Puckipuppy to clarify its coverage before purchase.
Return Policy
Puckipuppy’s current return policy allows buyers to submit a return request within 15 days of delivery.
For an unused and unopened e-bike, the policy currently says the buyer is responsible for $300 in round-trip shipping costs plus a 5% merchant processing fee.
For an opened or used e-bike, the policy currently lists a $300 round-trip shipping fee, a 20% warehouse handling fee based on the original purchase price, and a 5% merchant processing fee. The bike must show no signs of wear, must be returned in its original packaging with its original accessories and contents, and the odometer must not exceed 20 miles.
The policy also states that a $500 repackaging and handling fee applies if the original packaging is missing.
Those terms are one of my biggest concerns with the Poodle Pro. I would treat this as a purchase you should be reasonably confident about before opening, assembling, and riding the bike.
Support and Financing
Puckipuppy’s current support information lists phone and email assistance, and the company advertises lifetime technical support, although replacement parts after the warranty period are the customer’s responsibility.
The Poodle Pro product page currently displays Affirm and Klarna financing. Financing availability, approval, payment schedules, and promotional interest terms depend on the offer shown during checkout, so confirm the actual financing agreement rather than relying only on the product-page banner.
Price and Value
At $1,199.99 on September 10, 2026, the Poodle Pro presents a convincing hardware-value argument. A 720Wh battery, 750W rated motor, hydraulic brakes, dual-sensor pedal assist, 8-speed drivetrain, front suspension, and 350 lb capacity make the specification sheet competitive.
Puckipuppy’s product page was also advertising a free Great Value Pack when I checked, with items including a rear rack and bike fenders. Promotional bundles can change quickly, so I would not treat those accessories as permanently included equipment.
The longer-term value picture is more complicated. The restrictive return terms matter, the complete-bike UL 2849 certification is still pending according to Puckipuppy, and the documentation around class designation and a few other details could be clearer.
Those concerns are why I would not rate the Poodle Pro in the 9.0-10.0 range despite its strong component value.

Should You Buy the Puckipuppy Poodle Pro?
The Puckipuppy Poodle Pro earns an 8.2 out of 10 – Very Good rating from me as a research-based recommendation for the right rider.
The strongest reasons to buy it are straightforward. At the $1,199.99 price I verified, you get a 720Wh battery, 750W rated hub motor, torque plus cadence sensing, hydraulic disc brakes with manufacturer-listed 180mm rotors, an 8-speed drivetrain, an 80mm suspension fork, a step-through frame, and a 350 lb maximum load.
The most important drawbacks are just as important. Complete UL 2849 certification is still in progress according to Puckipuppy, its Class 2 label conflicts with the company’s own 28 mph pedal-assist specification, its return fees can be substantial, and there is not enough independent Poodle Pro testing for me to make highly precise claims about braking, range, or hill climbing.
You should buy this bike if you want a reasonably priced full-size step-through commuter for everyday roads and paved routes, you value a larger battery and hydraulic brakes, you fit the listed geometry, you are comfortable with a 63.1 lb bike, and Puckipuppy’s current certification status satisfies the rules that apply where you store and ride it.
You should skip this bike if you require complete UL 2849 certification right now, live at a New York City shipping address, need a particularly lightweight e-bike, want extensive published independent performance data, or are uncomfortable with Puckipuppy’s current return conditions.

Alternative 1: Lectric XPress2 Cruiser Step-Thru
The Lectric XPress2 Cruiser Step-Thru is a strong alternative if complete UL 2849 certification is a priority.
At my September 10, 2026 check, Lectric listed it at $1,399 with a 750W rear hub motor, 1310W claimed peak power, 85 Nm of torque, a 48V 14Ah 672Wh battery, selectable torque- or cadence-sensor operation, hydraulic disc brakes, an 80mm SR Suntour fork, up to 28 mph capability, and a 330 lb payload rating. Lectric states that both the battery and complete e-bike have the applicable UL certifications, including UL 2849 for the e-bike.
The tradeoff is current availability. Lectric’s page showed the XPress2 Cruiser as a preorder expected to ship the week of September 28, 2026 when I checked.
Choose the Lectric instead if documented complete-bike UL 2849 certification and a published 85 Nm torque specification matter more to you than saving roughly $200 at the current listed prices.

Alternative 2: Velotric Discover 3
The Velotric Discover 3 is the premium alternative I would consider if you are willing to spend considerably more for stronger comfort features, complete UL certification, a higher load rating, and more built-in technology.
At my September 10, 2026 check, Velotric listed the Discover 3 at $1,999. It uses a 750W rear hub motor with 1100W peak output and 75 Nm of torque, a 730Wh battery, torque and cadence SensorSwap functionality, Tektro hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors, an 80mm air-suspension fork, a suspension seatpost, and a 440 lb maximum load. Velotric claims up to 80 miles of pedal-assist range under its stated test conditions.
The Discover 3 also includes a rear rack and full-coverage fenders, a removable throttle, adjustable Class 1, 2, and 3 operation, Apple Find My and Google Find Hub compatibility, NFC unlocking, and a 3.5 in. color display. Velotric lists the complete bike as UL 2849 certified and the battery as UL 2271 certified.
Choose the Discover 3 instead if you want a more premium comfort-oriented commuter, need the 440 lb load capacity, want complete UL 2849 certification, or value the air suspension, suspension seatpost, integrated security features, and longer manufacturer-claimed range. The Poodle Pro remains much less expensive, so the Discover 3 makes the most sense for riders willing to pay substantially more for those upgrades.
Before you buy: Recheck the Poodle Pro’s current price and promotional package, measure your fit rather than relying only on rider height, make sure the 63.1 lb weight works with your storage and transport plans, read the return policy before opening the box, verify the latest UL 2849 certification status, and check the e-bike class and speed rules for the roads, paths, trails, campuses, and properties where you expect to ride.
