My rule is simple: one loose spoke deserves an inspection, but repeated loose or broken spokes deserve a wheel diagnosis.
I would much rather have a mechanic correct the wheel’s tension and build quality early than keep tightening individual nipples until another spoke breaks or the rim becomes harder to save.
I am especially cautious with a heavy e-bike, cargo bike, or hub-motor wheel because wheel integrity directly affects handling and braking, and replacement wheels can be more complicated and expensive than on a basic bicycle.
