JackRabbit, the brand behind compact and ultra-light electric microbikes, has introduced an innovative Solar Charging Kit designed to harness the power of the sun to keep riders on the move. With this new product, JackRabbit ensures that e-bike enthusiasts can charge their bikes even in the absence of a power outlet, making off-grid adventures more seamless than ever.

Unveiled this week, the Solar Charging Kit is a compact solution consisting of a single folding solar panel paired with a voltage converter configured to deliver the exact 42.0V needed to charge JackRabbit’s e-bike batteries. Not just limited to the bike, the kit also features USB-A and USB-C ports to charge other devices, making it a versatile tool for outdoor enthusiasts.

“This Solar Charging Kit plugs directly into your bike,” the company explained, “letting you recharge without needing an outlet, but with a speed comparable to the charger that comes with the OG/OG2 (42V, 2A).” The kit provides approximately 80W of solar power, allowing JackRabbit’s compact 151Wh batteries to fully recharge in just three hours. This impressive speed is achievable thanks to the small size of JackRabbit’s batteries—about a third of the size of a standard e-bike battery.

JackRabbit’s design philosophy centers around going micro, offering lightweight bikes that weigh just 25 pounds and are easy to carry or store when not in use. The small battery size aligns with the brand’s mission, making these micro e-bikes perfect for travel and portability. Since their batteries fall under the 160Wh limit set by airlines in the US, they can be taken on flights, providing unmatched convenience for frequent travelers.

For those needing more range, JackRabbit offers the pocket-sized original batteries, which provide around 10 miles (16 km) of riding per charge. Larger Rangebuster batteries are also available for extended rides, though these won’t make it past TSA checkpoints for air travel. The Solar Charging Kit is compatible with both battery options, though charging the larger battery will take longer than three hours.

Priced at $349, the Solar Charging Kit is slightly more expensive than a DIY solution but is far more convenient and safer. It’s specifically designed for JackRabbit micro e-bikes, allowing riders to skip the hassle of configuring custom charging systems. While intended primarily for JackRabbit’s e-bikes (technically classified as seated scooters), the kit may work with other 36V e-bikes that require a 42.0V input.

This new kit caters perfectly to adventurers, campers, festival-goers, and anyone else who finds themselves enjoying extended time outdoors without easy access to a power outlet. Solar charging solutions for e-bikes are becoming increasingly popular, and JackRabbit’s latest offering is a welcome addition to the lineup, delivering portable power directly from the sun.
