Bikes Gone in the Night: LA Ebike Tour Company Burglarized Twice in Weeks

It’s a rough season for small business owners in LA—and for Kenneth Lippman, the hits just keep coming.
Lippman runs Another Side of Los Angeles Tours, a company known for offering electric bike adventures through some of the city’s most scenic neighborhoods. But recently, his focus has shifted from hosting tours to beefing up security. His shop, near La Cienega and Olympic, was burglarized twice in under a month.
The latest break-in happened around 3 a.m. on Good Friday. Security footage shows someone hurling a brick through the glass front door, then calmly walking off with three ebikes.
“This was my Good Friday welcome,” Lippman said. “It’s devastating. We’re already hurting from the drop in tourism after the fires, and now this.”
Each stolen ebike is worth anywhere from $600 to $1,000—no small dent for a business trying to recover.
The first burglary occurred on March 21 around 1 a.m., when a single bike was taken. Since then, Lippman’s installed security gates and is urging LAPD to patrol the area more consistently, especially during the early morning hours when both incidents occurred.
“I’m doing what any small business owner would—trying to get attention on this, hoping the police will help, and just doing my best to hang on.”
The thefts are part of a larger trend, as high-value ebikes continue to attract thieves. It’s a tough blow for shops that depend on these bikes not just as inventory, but as the foundation of their entire business model.
