Best Folding Electric Trikes: 6 Picks for Storage and Transport

Last Updated on October 31, 2026 by Kristina

📚 Research-based buying guide: I have not personally tested every bike in this guide. These recommendations are based on current manufacturer specifications, safety docu mentation, warranty and return policies, independent testing, service information, and available rider feedback. y Mooncool TK2 observations come from my own hands-on review; I have not performed comparative folding, lifting, braking, or range tests across this lineup.

Specifications and listed prices checked October 30–31, 2026. Prices, equipment, colors, availability, and policies can change. Published dimensions are manufacturer figures, not measurements I personally verified.

Introduction

A folding electric trike can help you reclaim garage space or make travel more practical. But a folding hinge does not tell you whether the trike will fit through your shed door, clear your SUV hatch, or be manageable to load.

I would start with the space you have and work backward. For this guide, I focused on folding-frame models and the compromises that matter when storing or transporting them: folded width, weight, battery removal, rider fit, and the work required each time you put the trike away.

For a wider selection, see my best electric tricycles guide. If you are buying your first electric ride, start with my complete e-bike buying guide.

*Prices, availability, and configurations can change. Dimensions are manufacturer-published, not independently measured. Confirm the current configuration before buying.

Important: Weight definitions differ. Mooncool’s “net weight” should not be read as a verified battery-removed lifting weight. For the EZ Transit, do not assume a specific vehicle or storage fit without written measurements. Mooncool’s pages displayed mixed stock messages, so confirm the selected color and delivery date.

Height ranges are a starting point. Check saddle height, pedal reach, step-over clearance, handlebar reach, and seat comfort. A combined load rating is not automatically a rider-only allowance. For more help, see electric trikes for heavy riders.

🔎 Why You Can Trust This Guide

I selected these models around distinct buying needs rather than motor wattage alone. Published storage measurements, clear weight definitions, fit, braking equipment, and practical loading requirements matter more here than a long list of similar trikes.

Only the TK2 includes my firsthand riding impressions. The Liberty is included for its separable design; it is not a low-weight complete trike. I do not describe manufacturer claims as independent test results or assign scores for tests I have not conducted. Read more about how Electric Bike Explorer researches and ranks e-bikes.

Disclosure: Mooncool provided my TK2 review trike free of charge. That does not determine its placement or prevent criticism.

Who This Guide Is For

This guide is for adults who want a three-wheel electric ride and have limited floor space or occasional transport needs. It is especially useful if you are comparing a garage, shed, RV storage area, or vehicle cargo compartment.

If your routine involves stairs or frequent solo lifting, work out a loading solution before ordering. A folding trike can still be too heavy or awkward for your situation. If two wheels suit your needs, compare my lightweight folding e-bike picks.

1. Lectric XP Trike2 750 – Best Overall Value

lectric xp trike 2

The Lectric is my starting point for overall value, provided its folded width works for your space. Its clear rider-specific limit and documented battery-removed weight help buyers plan ownership.

✅ Pros

  • Hydraulic brakes and torque-sensing assistance.
  • Beginner Preset for learning the controls.
  • Clear separation between rider and total payload.

❌ Cons

  • The normal fold becomes wider: 38 inches versus 30 inches unfolded.
  • The narrower folded arrangement requires front-wheel removal.
  • Still a substantial lifting load without the battery.

Choose it if: You want a well-rounded package and can accommodate its folded shape.

2. Mooncool TK2 – Best Everyday Option With EBE Hands-On Experience

mooncool tk2 trike

In my riding, I enjoyed the TK2’s smooth feel and convenient reverse. Its seat may feel narrow for larger riders. I have not verified its loading or folded-fit performance in a vehicle.

✅ Pros

  • Hydraulic brakes, differential, and reverse.
  • Published folded width below 29 inches.
  • EBE hands-on riding impressions available.

❌ Cons

  • Heavy despite the folding frame.
  • Cadence sensor rather than torque sensing.
  • Seat comfort needs individual checking.

Choose it if: Everyday errands and a narrower published folded shape matter more than low lifting weight.

3. Mooncool TK2 PRO – Best Mooncool Power and Battery Upgrade

mooncool tk2 pro

The TK2 PRO upgrades the regular TK2 with torque/cadence sensing, six-speed gearing, a stronger motor, and a larger battery. Both models already include hydraulic disc brakes. I would consider it for riders who want the upgraded equipment and can manage the additional weight.

✅ Pros

  • Larger battery than the TK2.
  • Torque sensing and multiple gears.
  • Differential and reverse.

❌ Cons

  • Highest published complete/net weight in this shortlist.
  • No smaller listed folded footprint than the TK2.
  • Combined load figure needs rider-specific clarification.

Choose it if: You prefer the equipment upgrade and have a practical loading plan. Extra power alone is not a reason to accept a trike you cannot move comfortably.

See TK2 PRO specifications and buying considerations in my heavy-rider trike guide

4. sixthreezero EZ Transit – Conditional Lower-Weight Option

sixthreezero easy transit electric trike

The EZ Transit remains a conditional shortlist option until its current folded dimensions and price are confirmed. It is worth investigating if reducing the lift is a priority. Its published weight is lower than the other models here, but I would confirm folded measurements before choosing it specifically for transport.

✅ Pros

  • Separate weights with and without battery.
  • Folding frame, stem, and pedals.
  • Seven-speed drivetrain.

❌ Cons

  • Mechanical disc brakes rather than hydraulic.
  • Battery-removed weight remains substantial.
  • Exact folded size and current price need confirmation.

The product page also contains inconsistent speed claims. Obtain the current manual and settings information; I would not choose a trike for high-speed cornering.

Choose it if: The lower weight helps your loading plan and the manufacturer confirms the dimensions you need.

5. Emojo Dexter – Additional Geared Folding Option

emojo dexter folding electric trike

The Dexter broadens the shortlist with a folding-frame model from another brand. It has a seven-speed drivetrain and hydraulic brakes. Its published folded footprint is larger than the Mooncool models here, so it is not my first choice for the tightest space.

✅ Pros

  • Clearly published folded dimensions.
  • Removable battery and multiple gears.
  • Manufacturer specifies a rider-only weight limit.

❌ Cons

  • No reverse function.
  • Heavy to lift complete.
  • Confirm fit and availability for the selected configuration.

Choose it if: You want another geared option and can accommodate its larger fold. The manufacturer’s height guidance varies between official pages; check saddle height and reach rather than relying on a broad height claim.

6. Liberty Trike Freedom 16″ – Best Separable Design Option

liberty trike freedom folding electric trike

The current Freedom 16″ folds and separates into two halves for nesting. That offers a different loading approach, but the rear-half figure in the chart excludes several components. It is not the weight of a complete ready-to-load rear assembly.

✅ Pros

  • Separation can reduce the weight handled in one lift.
  • Hydraulic brakes and reverse.
  • Manufacturer publishes component weights.

❌ Cons

  • Still heavy as a complete trike.
  • Separating and reassembling adds steps.
  • Exact folded/nested measurements need confirmation.

The official page contains conflicting speed information, so I am not assigning a verified top speed here. Older Liberty Trike weights should not be used for this current Freedom model.

Choose it if: You prefer lifting separate sections and can follow the assembly and securing procedure.

How to Choose a Folding Electric Trike

1. Measure the opening and the parking space

A trike must pass through the doorway or hatch before it can occupy the available space. Measure the clear opening, usable floor length and width, and height beneath shelves or the vehicle roof. Allow clearance for your hands and maneuvering.

Try marking the proposed footprint with tape on the floor. Then check the approach: a sharp turn through a narrow hallway can be harder than parking in the final space. My electric trike storage guide explains this in more detail.

2. Separate storage convenience from lifting convenience

A smaller shape may be easier to park but harder to grip. Before buying, watch the complete folding process and identify what supports the trike while the hinge is open. Ask which components must be removed and how the folded frame is secured.

Do not assume a folded trike can be rolled, stood upright, or lifted by its hinge. Follow the model’s instructions. If you need assistance every time you load it, include that in your decision.

3. Plan transport before buying accessories

Check your vehicle’s cargo opening and usable interior, including protruding trim and the height of the loading floor. Any ramp or carrier must be suitable for the trike’s weight, wheel layout, and dimensions.

A normal two-wheel bicycle rack is not automatically suitable for a trike. See my guide to transporting an electric trike before buying a rack or carrier.

4. Check fit and low-speed control

Try starting, stopping, turning, reversing if equipped, and parking in a clear area. A trike handles differently from a bicycle and can tip in a fast turn or on a side slope. A differential does not remove those risks.

Prioritize an accessible frame, comfortable pedal reach, predictable assistance, and brakes you can operate easily. A high payload number cannot tell you whether the saddle fits.

Battery, Certification, Warranty, and Returns

Confirm that you can remove, carry, and reconnect the battery as instructed. Ask for the replacement battery’s current cost and availability. Treat advertised maximum range as a manufacturer claim, not a distance you can count on in every condition.

Check certification documentation for the exact model and battery. Lectric lists UL 2849 and UL 2271 certification; Mooncool states SGS certification to those standards. sixthreezero describes ACT Labs testing and compliance. Emojo lists UL 2849, while Liberty lists UL 2271 for the battery; a battery listing alone should not be presented as certification of the complete trike. Those statements have not been independently verified against certification databases for this guide.

Before paying, read the current warranty and return terms. Confirm who pays for return shipping, whether riding or assembly affects eligibility, what packaging you must retain, and how repairs are handled locally. A large trike can be expensive and inconvenient to send back.

For each finalist, ask these questions:

  • Is my chosen color ready to ship, and what is the delivery estimate?
  • What is the maximum rider weight separately from cargo?
  • What exact folded dimensions apply with baskets and wheels installed?
  • What does the battery-removed trike weigh?
  • Who handles assembly, warranty labor, and replacement parts?

Common Buying Mistakes

  • Using only the folded length. Width or height may be the limiting measurement.
  • Comparing inconsistent weights. A bare-frame or battery-removed figure is not a complete riding weight.
  • Assuming a fold means an easy lift. Check the whole loading routine.
  • Buying for a vehicle you have not measured. Interior volume alone does not establish hatch clearance.
  • Choosing on power alone. Fit, handling, support, and practical storage deserve equal attention.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best folding electric trike?

The Lectric is my overall value starting point, while the TK2 suits buyers prioritizing everyday utility and its narrower published folded shape. The right choice depends on your fit, storage opening, budget, and loading plan.

Will a folding electric trike fit in my SUV?

Possibly, but the word “folding” does not establish compatibility. Compare the exact configuration with the hatch opening and usable cargo space. Confirm how you will load and secure it.

Can one person lift a folding electric trike?

That depends on the person, the trike, and the loading height. Do not use weight alone to decide. A wide, folded object can be awkward even when its battery is removed.

Does folding make a trike narrower?

Not necessarily. Check each model’s published configuration. A fold may reduce length and height while leaving the width unchanged or increasing it.

Should I choose a folding-stem trike instead?

It can work if reducing height solves your storage problem. Ask whether the main frame folds, which parts move, and what the final measurements are. Different folding mechanisms should not be treated as interchangeable.

My Take: Which Folding Electric Trike Should You Buy?

I would choose the storage and loading arrangement first, then the trike. A model that needs an awkward lift every time you ride may become frustrating regardless of its specifications.

Start with the Lectric for overall value, the TK2 for everyday utility backed by my riding impressions, or the TK2 PRO if you want its upgrades and accept the weight. Consider the Emojo Dexter for another geared folding choice, or the Liberty Freedom 16″ if lifting separate sections better suits your routine. Investigate the EZ Transit if lower published weight is decisive, but obtain the missing folded measurements first.

Before ordering, make sure you can explain the whole routine: where it parks, how it gets through the opening, who loads it, and how it is secured. That is what makes a folding trike a practical purchase.
